Did you ever have bad backaches?

I do not know what I did but for the last couple of days my back gets so bad I can hardly move. I noticed it one night when I got out of bed to get a drink of water. I have had backaches before but this is crazy. It got so bad today that I called my doctor but the office is closed on Fridays.
I was thinking I had kidney stones as my mom did years ago and had a big operation. That was before all the modern technology. My son had them while he was on a cruise and was in a lot of pain.
When I asked him today about it he said what I described sounded more like a sprain. When he said that I remembered I had been out in the gardens and lifting big bags of mulch and stones.
I will try to bear with it over the weekend hoping a little rest and not doing anything strenuous might help it. If not I can always go to the emergency room at the hospital. It is not continuous so I never know how I am going to feel.
I hate not knowing even if I do find out I can deal with that more.

Sounds like my back pain to I think mine was a sprain to, it was really bad for about two days, and still pretty rough on third day but I slowly started to feel better. But first two days I could barely move and could not sit normal at all

That is encouraging for me, not that I am happy you had problems with your back. I just assumed kidney stones as my mom had them and had the big operation. That was when I was young and operations are not like they were then. Now I understand the operation is totally different.

@chrissbergstrom I think kidney stones are the first thing that comes to peoples mind. I am going to think positive.

@ramapo17 yes everyone scared me saying it was kidney stones but from what I can tell it was just a sprain

It must be pretty bad if you called the doctor. You should get it checked out. I get a sore back sometimes but I think it is the way i sleep or the lifting I do at work.

I am the same way. I will never ask for help with anything and think I am still a strong "girl". At this age I shouldn't be lifting anything but I cannot realize I am getting (should say, am) older.
I never call the doctor, in fact my husband always tells me to call the doc but I never do for anything.

@Happy2BeMe It is still sore today but it never bothered me during the night and I got up 3 times to go to the bathroom. I drank water all day yesterday thinking it was kidney stones. Now that I am walking around it is hurting again. As long as I am sitting I am ok.

Yes, it I know what causes mine, though. I have spondylolisthesis. I use lidocaine patches when the pain gets too intense.

@ramapo17 -- that's one of the things about getting older: I'm getting lessons in anatomy and big ten-dollar medical terms I never knew existed!!

@Linda1234 Thanks, me too. I can go for hours with no problems and then all of a sudden I get a crazy pain around the waist. I never know when it is going to hurt. Worst thing is the doctor is off on the weekends and I hate going into hospitals on the weekend. Lots of sickies there.

I have heard of that but don't know anything about it. I will look it up online. I was on a few sites for this problem and they said it can last for a few weeks.

How are you now? It is already June and I hope your back is in good condition now. I had a severe backache before and a friend told me it might be of gallbladder issue.

There are so many reasons for back problems. Even the wrong twist can be very painful.

I don't have backaches often but I do have them more than I would like to. It really does slow you down. Usually a couple of Tylenol takes care of it so I can bounce back and get to work.

I had kidney stones and the pain was in the front not the back....excruciating pain with fever. Soak in a hot tub and if it isn't better Monday to go to the doc.

@ramapo17 I had one blasted and a few years later I passed one. The one I passed hardly hurt at all.

@AbbyGreenhill I have heard some people say when they passed one it was very painful and others say nothing to it. I know men have a rough time passing them as my son did.

My mom had an operation for kidney stones when I was a teenager. Of course the operation now is nothing like back then, She was cut from one side of her waist to the other side. It was ugly. Now a days it is nothing like that. My son had them when he was on a cruise and the shop doctor gave him some meds to pass the stones. He was in agony. It is a lot harder for a man to pass them than a female.

@CRK109 Thank you, me too. We are leaving Florida on the 11 of May and driving to New Jersey for 10 days. It is a 2 day trip as we stay overnight in North Carolina as my husband likes doing all the driving. Then we have to drive back again.

I have arthritis in my neck and am seeing a chiropractor about my spine. My neck is angled 25 degrees forward (which is NOT good at all -- the 2nd worst my chiro has ever seen!) and frequently gives me headaches, and my back gets very tired towards the end of the day.

Wow, I never heard of anything like that. How long have you had that and do the doctors know where it comes from? I hope you feel better soon.

@spiderdust There are so many issues that can lead from one thing to another. The arthritis in my fingers is really ugly. My ring finger on my left hand is all bent and I can only imagine what it is going to look like in a few years.

@ramapo17 I have overly stretchy ligaments, and one on the left side is overstretched and slack. It's also a form of "tech neck", from constantly looking down at a phone or computer screen or nursing baby.

I hope it gets better as you rest. I have backaches and I think it is from me sitting long hours at work
