Welcome to the working week! Oh, wait, I already used that song. Here's Monday, and here's the final song on my countdown of my favorite songs that have "work" in the title. Here's the top song...not better than yesterday's but more fun. #1: Makin' It Work - Doug & the Slugs With a band name like Doug & the Slugs you know this isn't deep and philosophical. And the video is hilarious ("Helping Hand Sex Therapists"??? Only in a music video could you get away with a joke like that!). This song has all of the elements of early 80s music: a little ska, a little pop, and a lot of fun. And, as I initially heard this song on MTV, the video didn't hurt! (They were on The Robert Klein Radio Show, but I think they did "Too Bad" that night.) Original lead Slug Doug Bennett died in 2004. The band continues with a new "Doug," but there's nothing like the fun of the original. Thanks for reading. Makin' It Work Written by Doug Bennett Recorded by Doug & the Slugs From Music For the Hard of Thinking, 1982 Darlin'...pow! pow!
From Canadian band Doug & The Slugs from 1982, sadly no longer with us. (Thank you for the correction marehtseira)

I never heard this before. Ideal for the Dr. Demento Show.

Really? It got airplay on MTV quite a bit (so did "Too Bad"). Too much cowpunk back then in L.A.
