Providing a house for my brother is not exactly enabling him but ...

I told my father, before he died years later, that everyone in the family had a home but my older brother. I wanted my father to think about giving up my inheritance towards my older brother as he was the one who was our father's caretaker after our mother passed years earlier. I spoke to a friend of mine, who I have known for many decades, perhaps most of my life growing up and in the old neighborhood. I said I wish people could just stop using drugs. But after I told my friend that I disapproved of him using the wacky tabaccy, he told me that I was an enabler because if not for me helping my older brother out by convincing my dad that big brother to live in the house as a LIFE ESTATE until his death in which case all us siblings would divide the money from the house sale after such time, if I had not convinced my dad to let him stay there in the house he would not have been able to afford to buy the drugs he is now using or has used over many years past. Such drugs as the green leaf tobacco, white powder that goes by the same name as a popular soft drink and that brown fermented substance that people consume by the giga-gallons that some people refer to as horse dot dot dot and some other types of substances are bad for a person with heart disease, lung disease and a tendency to skip utility payments in favor of having a good time. That is what I was accused of being, an ENABLER for my brother to get high, stoned and have a party on every occasion he has the chance to do so. I am not the one providing my older brother with drugs, alcoholic beverages or other substances. The person providing the green tobacco leaf hallucenagenic smoke and the blue V pills and ICE to name a few, will not be mentioned here. I think I have been placed on my friend's new S List. But then maybe I was already on it but never was told. Just because I think you should just say NO to drugs and alcohol. That said, I am no saint and I did many things when younger but now, older I want to live as long as possible and knowing that drugs and alcohol and cigarettes can shorten one's life span, why even chance fate with them?

the only thing you enabled for him was to have a place to live. the rest is the decisions made by the brother. that friend of yours should be donkey punched in the face for saying such a thing.

I believe you did what you should have done for your brother.
