Do Reviews Put You Off a Hotel

Several times I have booked a hotel and then unbooked it after seeing a bad review. Or I have not booked at all. However, sometimes things have improved or were never that bad at all. How much notice do you take of online reviews for a hotel?

I do not trust the online reviews because I have noticed that most of the time they are far to be real. I have recently seen a review that praised an Indian restaurant not far from our home... the restaurant was closed two years ago and it was closed for hygienic problems. Imagine how real is that review.

That is actually quite silly. I mean if you were messing around giving reviews then you need to check the place exists.

@Jackalyn The travel site should be more serious and ask to upload the proof you really visited the site. I would ask for the last bill paid.

I will look at the reviews. One or two bad reviews in the mix won't put me off, but if the reviews are overwhelmingly bad, I will look for alternatives. When I owned the store, I had someone post a review (somewhere I couldn't delete it) I read the review and could neither identify the event they were discussing, nor respond to it. Anyone reading the review would have thought we were horrible, rude and dishonest.

That is terrible. I do think that even if there is a bad review the vendor should have the right of reply.

@Jackalyn it's one of the reasons why I take most reviews with a grain of salt

I do read reviews for hotels, but I only take notice if all the reviews are bad. Often people give bad reviews for the most ridiculous things, so it's about being able to weed out the idiot reviewers from the more astute ones.

Sometimes it is hard to tell. One aggrieved person could make up reviews.

We certainly take some notice particularly if there are several reviews that mention the same problems - or good things.

I guess if the same problem keeps happening over time, then there really is a problem.

@Jackalyn Some people expect five star facilities at a 3 star hotel so we ignore those reviews. It just depends really on what is said.

Online reviews are often done just because one person is upset at that place of business and review is alot harsher then it should be so i dont listen to online reviews

I am never sure, but when there is a bunch of them you do have to wonder.

@Jackalyn I guess that is true if there is multiple bad reviews and no good that would make me believe them

I am an obsessive review reader on just about everything. I don't have much need for hotel bookings, but I couldn't tell you how many purchases I have decided to make and then changed my mind and didn't buy anything at all because of the reviews.

I am very dubious about an online reviews for a hotel. Some hotels get people to put in good words for them.

I think we have to consider reviews too in choosing something or in deciding into something. Reviews tells the truth but maybe not all of them.

That is the problem. It is hard to know what the truth is.
