How many of you would have this information?

I just had to fill in a security clearance form. It asked for my parents details including: Where they were born What county they were born in What country they were born in How long they have lived at their present address If they ever had any other surnames My mother's maiden name I happen to know even down to the fact my mother moved to her present address in 1946. Even then, mum pointed out that she was 13 at the time and so has no idea what month or date that was. Many people probably do NOT know their mother's maiden name. Some may not ever be able to discover when their parents moved to their present home. As to what town and county parents were born in, I imagine many cannot say. I am not sure what happens if the parent doesn't know themselves. Ancestry.com won't tell everything! I would think some people have to resort to free BMD if they are British, but if you come from some countries the information would be even harder to find. Well, I did fill in the form because I could. Could you?

I could fill that form without asking to my Mom because I know very well all the answers. I am Italian, we keep our maiden name even after we are married. On our documents the line "married" with the name of the husband is added. Anyway I know very well the maiden name of my Mom and I even know the one of my two grannies.

But could you tell the form where your parents were born?

I would do okay with my parents' information, and pretty good with his parents. His family has been in his home community since the 1830s. His family's history is well documented, and the descendants of the original settler still get together for reunions even though we're no longer closely kin. I can tell you my maternal grandparents' names, but not where they were born, and not who their parents were or where they were from. But I can be pretty accurate on where my parents lived during his Air Force career before I was born and roughly when because I've heard the stories so many times.

I had a high security clearance years back for a particular job that deal government orders. I think the form was like 20 pages long back then! I still have a copy of it.

I could have too although how long in their present home would have had me thinking.

Names and surnames inside the family are easy to find out. But that does not always account for the dates when someone moved out or changed a job etc. It is all in our municipal archives, though. I guess providing all that info can be complicated for expats and immigrants, for people whose family members are not alive.
