Credit Card Debt

Credit cards are great...but invisible money has a way of getting away from you. I was always taught not to spend money that you know will not be in your next pay check, but I have friends who don't operate under that same principle and have debt up to their eye balls! How do you pay off credit card debt or prevent it from building up?

That is a good thing to learn & practice! My family grew up depending on credit cards and counting on money that wasn't there yet. My husband is really good with money & saving so we don't have too much credit card debt. We do have a card for emergencies though. We just had one we had to fix my husbands truck & get work done to my van. We put any extra money we can possibly spare towards the credit card each paycheck till it's paid off!

I think that we have been taught to get what we want now and we can pay for it later. I guess I feel like its easy to get into debt but hard to stay out. Its hard to dig out once you are in as well. Everywhere we go they are offering easy pay plans. Its easy to make the payments until you have 10 different ones. I'm trying to teach my kids better but its hard when the whole rest of the world is saying I'm wrong.

I completely agree, there isn't really a concept of working up to something anymore, it's as if people think that they are entitled to everything they desire. I also think that the upfront bonuses that credit card companies offer rope people in and then after the first 6 months they get trapped under unbelievably high interest rates. Props to you for teaching your children a different way :)
