This is absurd

So a little background information before I start ranting would probably help y'all understand why I'm so frustrated. Well here goes it. For about a year and a half now, I have been struggling with PTSD, major depressive disorder, and severe anxiety disorder. (Yes I've been diagnosed with all of them). Due to the fact that I am going to college soon, my doctors thought it would be best for me to get a Service Dog and they recommended an Australian Shepherd due to their size and friendliness. Okay now onto the part that frustrated me. So last night I'm sitting online and I found this gorgeous Aussie pup that would work out perfect to be my Service Dog. So naturally I email the people to find out if she is still available for adoption. They replied to me this morning informing me that I must fill out an adoption application and then basically just wait to see if I meet their requirements for someone who can own a dog. That is frustrating to me because I've basically been "prescribed" to get a Service Dog and now I have to rely on the judgment of people I don't even know to tell me if I am a suitable adopter. I never knew it could be this hard just for someone to get the Service Dog that they need.

If you have been prescribed a service dog you would not be adopting a puppy, you would have to be matched with a well trained service dog that has the ability to meet your needs, you probably are not qualified to train a service dog, it takes years of training to get certified.

Mine is a little different of a case because i trained service dogs at the high school I attended and am qualified to do so and my doctors think it's actually better because it gives me something to focus my mind on.

Ohhh so you are certified @texasmo10 I didn't know that. As for the rigors one goes through to adopt a puppy, I'm glad they finally make it harder for those who would abuse them to attain them. I know it's frustrating but with all the abuse we hear about I'm glad they make it hard.

@rebelann that is very true, just makes things difficult for those of us who have no intentions of abusing any animals

Dogs' right is no less that that of human's. We should respect their right to choose their owner. But soon you get one of your choice(He too).Good Luck.

I completely understand that dogs choose their owners, but these people aren't even giving me a chance to meet the dog. Strictly just basing everything off of an application

well, sadly that is their procedure... since adopting a dog may be the same as adopting a child, so of course they will be cautious as to where to hand the dog over

Sorry I do not anything about adopting a service dog. However, if you need a pup, that would be a pet isn't it? If you need a service dog to help you, I think an adult dog would be better. Maybe the process of adoption had changed.
