Looking for the best deal on airline tickets

I recently began to search for a good deal on 3 tickets to fly from Boise, ID or Salt Lake City, UT to LAX. I am actively planning ahead for the family vacation in November. I have found, so far, that these so-called discount airfare sites do not seem to have flights any cheaper than the Airline itself. When it all boils down I think it ends up being a little more, due to the site demanding a fee for their service. Does anyone have any ideas?

ooh LAX. have you tried looking into landing in nearby Ontario International airport instead, a lot of people go there, its less stressfull. and about 38 miles east from downtown LA. shuttle services, taxis, car rentals, hotels, near the 10 and 15 freeway and the 60 that leads straight into east LA..

I think the Ontario airport is closer to the port, I will definitely have to check into that. We are going on a Carnival Cruise.
