Zoloft for children?!

Recently my 7 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. Unfortunately for my poor boy, both run rampant in his father's side. He's really been struggling in school this year (1st grade), so his teacher recommended that I have him assessed for the ADHD. Now that he has been diagnosed with both disorders, his psychologist won't treat his ADHD until his anxiety is treated. Without hesitation or even offering suggestions on coping mechanisms when he's feeling anxious, she immediately grabbed her pen and script tablet and was ready to prescribe him Zoloft or Prozac. I said, "hold on a second, I'm not comfortable with my 7 year old taking those drugs." she went on to tell me they are the only FDA approved medications for child anxiety. After telling her I need to do some research and rescheduling an appointment to discuss the medications, I drove home with a feeling of discomfort. I didn't know much about these drugs, only that I've heard very negative things about them. During my research, the first side effect I read was "suicidal thoughts and tendencies in young people." That's all the research I did. I don't need to read anything else about these medications, I refuse to take even the slightest risk.
That being said, I'm currently researching a more homeopathic or natural route.
Bach flower remedies, CBD oil, a complete change in diet and I'm sure there's still more that I haven't come across yet.
Send me your suggestions!

Thanks! The Zoloft is for anxiety, he would have to take a different medication for the ADHD

I think you should have him try therapy before putting him on any medications. I've seen some studies showing therapy is just as effective for mild to moderate symptoms.

@lolaze, I am hoping the next meeting with the psychologist goes a little smoother and she actually tries to help and use her knowledge rather than just push medications.
