I remember watching Al Gore speaking about how Antarctica was melting away and thinking to myself that we're creating our own apocalypse. Well stress no more because we finally found a solution to one of the largest global problems. We're simply going to pump near freezing waters, that resides under Antarctica, onto the surface during the polar winter to thicken the ice. The technology that will be used for this project is basically the same as used by windmills. Each pump would be able to create one meter of ice over 100,000 square meters.

That sounds like a very difficult and expensive project, but if it helps protect our planet, it's worth it.

We have to see how far it is feasible.

In my opinion, it's a very good start at making a part of our planet healthy again.

Who will fund the project? Is the money enough to let the project run long enough to make a difference?

They plan on running it for a decade and they will probably be funded by private organizations. I'm not quite sure.

@bacon147 Without strong support from many countries, the funding is not going to last. Private organizations do not have the money to fund such a big project for a decade, especially when it is not profitable in nature.

@scheng1 I agree, but since this is a global problem that could effect everyone and every country, I think some big countries will help fund the project. In the end we all get the benefit of not losing Earth.

I don't think they mentioned that but I have no doubt it will be a lot. Sometimes we have to offer something for a much greater cause.
