Books - Reading, Owning, Borrowing

I love to read books. And there are plenty of books that I read that I actually bought instead of burrowing from the library.
If I had bought every single book I've ever read I'd probably have no storage room for anything else in the house... I don't think I've read thousands of books yet, but many hundreds for sure.
Also, if I had bought every single book I've ever read, I would have ended up spending way too much money. Good thing libraries exist.
Of course, there is also such a thing as supporting an author. Plus, buying the book means I can take as long as I need to read a book. And I don't have to worry about not finishing it on time, and whether I will be able to renew it.
How many books have you read? Do you prefer to buy books or borrow them from the library? How many books do you own?

I LOVE to read!! I honestly haven't read much lately, I don't seem to ever have the time anymore. Reading is one of the things I do to relieve stress but its ironic how stressed I have been lately and not picked up a book. Like you, if I had kept every book that I bought I would have a full house. I like to donate the books I read instead of holding on to them, unless it is a self help book. Those are the books I seem to hold on to, I actually have a few boxes full in the basement. What genre do you enjoy reading? Who is your favorite author? My favorites are Iris Johansson, James Patterson, Dean Koontz and Patricia Cornwell.

Self-Help books are definitely more than a one-time use kind of books... so keeping those makes a lot of sense. I wish I actually owned a house and had a huge room just filled with books...like have a very tall bookcase on all four sides of the room. That would be some awesome.
As for my fave authors... I've mentioned some of them in one of the comments already. Back in the 90s I used to read books based on TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Party of Five, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Full House. I also used to love Sweet Valley High and Sweet Valley University books...
I love reading books that are a series. I've read the Twilight Saga books, The Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices series, and now reading The Dark Artifices series. I've read pretty much every book from Luanne Rice, with the exception of her two YA novels. She never did YA before. I'm sure they are great though. And I've also read most of the books by Ellen Hopkins with the exception of the new ones...
There are many more books of course. Good thing for Goodreads. I can keep track of everything I read and want to read. Do you have an account there?

@lovebuglena No I don't have an account but now that you mentioned it I plan to check it out. Thank you. I too would love to have a large enough house that one room could be dedicated to housing all books.

@mferreira It's free. And you can even connect to people on there. When you add a book to the 'read' list you can give it a rating and a review as well. And if a book you've read happens to not be on their site you can add it yourself.

I love reading also. I havent borrowed a book from the library in years, usually I buy them from Amazon or Good will thrift stores and then donate them when Im done unless theyre good enough to keep. What kind of genres do you like or have any favorite authors?

I cannot say I have a favorite genre to read... It's all based on the story. if I am drawn or connected to the story in some way I will read it regardless of the genre. I love to read YA novels and non-YA novels.
Some of my fave authors that I read many books from are Ellen Hopkins, Luanne Rice, Cassandra Clare, Chris Colfer, Meg Cabot, Kevin Brooks, Orson Scott Card, Stephenie Meyer, Thomas Kinkade...

I am the one who will go to a yard sale just to look at the books. I recently signed up for the Kindle app where I can read unlimited for under 10 a month, so far I like it. What's funny is I haven't really used it.

I wish I had a library at home... Maybe one day when I own a house I will create one.

I don't read digital books either. it's not the same thing as reading actual books.

I do all of the above. I have physical books (far too many of them), books on Kindle (far too many of them) and I get books from the library. When I buy books, I tend to buy them from used book stores. The ebooks I buy tend to be inexpensive or free because I'm cheap. And poor.
Most fiction books I give away. Some I donate to the library. Most non-fiction books on history, biography, science, and poetry I keep. I almost end up looking through them again for one reason or another.

@lovebuglena I generally don't read novels twice. Nonfiction books I'll keep for reference. I may read them twice, or at least part of them twice.
I like Kindle because it's easy to hold, easy to carry and I can read it at night in bed w/o waking my husband. I also like paper books. There's a feeling of beginning, middle and end to them you can't get with an ebook. I can see advantages and disadvantages to both, so I can understand perfectly is one doesn't care for the ebook.

I tried to read a book on Kindle once and it wasn't for me. I will forever be a paperback/hardcover book lover. The reading experience is much more enjoyable for me. Of course, with Kindle you can read lots of books on the go without having to carry them. And that's great.
Right now, I am reading a book that is very thick. Carrying it around is rather heavy, not to mention that it takes up a lot of room.

I've never actually read a novel twice... I wonder if I tried doing that if I would finish the book... It's not like I will remember everything in the story, so I would assume I'd finish the book and enjoy it. But who knows?

Reading is great. Enjoyable and rewarding. I used to read a lot more than I do now. And I hate that.

I have read too many books to count and I have many books that I own and yes I have read my share of library books. As you can see, I love to read too.

I love books too. I think you meant borrowed and burrowwed. I prefer to buy free e-books and check them out from my library's Intenret library.

I am old so a lifetime of books read. I prefer to get books from the library as I would go broke buying them and once I have read a book, have no need to keep it.

That makes a lot of sense. Buying books does add up financially. And if you don't read the books you've read ever again no reason to have tons of them at your house unless one of your hobbies is to collect books...
