A short story

Here's a short story I wrote a while ago, I hope you enjoy it:
I fell in love with my best friend.
I couldn't help it, though I try to deny it. Off limits, too, no matter. I hide it, every day. Well, too, might I add. For whatever it's worth. I know what's inside.
I fell in love with my best friend.
Blue eyes. Passionate looks while talking about life. Protective. Funny. Responsible. Simple. Complicated. One of my people.
I fell in love with my best friend.
Oh, what would be ruined if I confessed. Three friendships, easily, if not more. A "whore" or even worse label to match my grief and shame. No, keep it to yourself. Be grateful and enjoy what you have. Do not ruin it for something that will never be. Was never meant to be. Sometimes, the carrot must remain at the end of the stick. The cookie jar beyond reach eternally. But, they are not an object. Human. Undeniably so. Perfectly imperfect. A nasty past. A promising future. Beliefs. Jokes. Understandings. Their own view of having a fashion sense. Their own motions, whenever they have their "ah ha" moments.
Enjoy what you have. You'll lose it if you say what you want.
Keep those thoughts to yourself. Your desires. Your lust. Your yearning. Oh, to feel the arms around you. To feel their hand in yours. To hear them breathing at night, while they sleep next to you. To feel that protection you know they offer. And, you would protect them too. To share laughs together, alone together. To grow together. To live life together. To die together.
I fell in love with my best friend.
How dare I do such a thing!
