What makes a celebrity overrated?

Often times you'll hear a celebrity referred to as "overrated." If you browse social media, you'll often see users voicing their opinion on overrated celebrities. A few celebs who've been grouped into this category are The Kardashians, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift to name a few.
Hearing so many people use the term, I began to wonder what makes a celebrity "overrated." Could it be the media hype over the stars? Or is it the celeb's ego and how they present themselves to the public? Or is it the celeb's fans who are always saying the star is the best and better than everyone else?
Personally, I think all three of these play huge factors into why a celebrity is deemed overrated. I think too much media attention along with the celeb's persona play a role in how the public will view the star.
In your opinion, what makes a celebrity overrated?

@jstory07 There are quite a few good celebrities in Hollywood. Who are some of your favorites?

@Courtlynn I never cared for Tom Brady either. He may be a good player, but I never got into the craze over him.

Personally, I think the likes of Mariah Carey and Beyonce are overrated. Notice, however, that we are mentioning singers (except for the Kardashians who are more of a business enterprise). With social media what it is today, everyone, no matter what business, needs to use all social platforms to get all the fans/business they can. I'm not sure these people are overrated so much as they have built themselves a huge fan base using many types of media, including in some cases who they date.
I am a big fan of Jackie Shultz (Howie Mandel's daughter). She began as a YouTube vlogger a couple of years ago. She still has only a fan base of just under 40,000. But she uses all mediums of social media (Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Live.me). She has over 1 million followers on Live.me. I told her I think she should be a television talk show host. Her Live.me broadcasts are fun and she has great guests. She is not a Live.me "auctioneer" (if you don't know what that means, check it out or ask me). Give the fans what they want and you will get the fans.
I think it's all in the eye of the beholder.

@patgalca You make a good point. Social media is an important aspect in branding your business and gaining followers. Some people get huge fanbases with millions of followers, while others only get a few thousand. I think it mostly has to do with how famous the person is.

@responsiveme Exactly! Their egos play a part in how they're perceived by the public.

The factor of him/her being "acclaimed" for a talent he/she doesn't have.

Rating a celebrity depends on her or his performance in his field. It also depends on his look too if he is related to showbiz industry. If he is a player then it depends on his performance. Everyone has his own choice and interests.

I think you hit it on the head, of the three you mentioned, Justin, I sort of like the others are not worth my time. Ego and their public look often turns me off.

@PainsOnSlate With The Kardashians and Taylor Swift, it's the media hype and just they way they act that bothers me.

@JohnRoberts The media does play a big role in creating hype over celebrities who don't deserve the attention.

@JediYoda I agree that the media does tend to overhype these celebrities, who don't need the attention.
