yes i tried kaspersky and its really good but for me, i prefer nod32 because of its simplicity and very easy to use features. it scans in the background without affecting the speed of my computer and like kaspersky, the detection rate is very superb and scanning is very fast too. It uses less resources of computer which i think makes it on top of other antivirus software. I have tried other AVs but most of them nearly cripppled my system making it very slow and less responsive. With nod32, my computer runs like it doens't have anything installed on it.

It depends on your preferences, as well as the other security programs you have. If your firewall does not have IPS, and if you're not using a third-party IPS to complement it, you need something that protects your registries and system directories. The latest version of McAfee will do this.
Personally, I have much more confidence in network-level blocking than trying to detect and block destructive programs at the point of execution. The latest version of McAfee's firewall has NIPS, and so does Kerio. AOL Safety and Security Center offers a free version of McAfee's firewall and antivirus, along with free antispyware powered by CA PestPatrol.
Personally, I use FeeBe WebWall (NIPS), Windows Firewall (firewall), and CyberDefenderFREE (antivirus/antispyware). The Windows Firewall has the traditional SPI, which will keep hackers from accessing my files. WebWall complements Windows Firewall by blocking malicious attacks at the network level. And finally, CyberDefender catches anything that gets through within about an hour, using the Early Alert Center's automated Universal Threat Scale machine analysis. It's more of a reactive scanner than proactive, but it's unlikely to produce false positives.
WebWall is really the MVP in my security arsenal. It's the only free IPS I've found that uses the positive security model. This model produces more false positives than the more common, negative security model, such as those in McAfee and Kerio. The negative security model may pose problems for corporations or highly prolific home users, but most users won't even know it's there. And it is the ultimate power when security is paramount.

Oops! Typo. I said the negative security model may pose problems for corporations and highly prolific home users. I actually meant the positive model. Sorry!

bitdefender takes a lot of system resources. It slows the PC noticeably.

I used to use Norton but switched to AVG. It's free, easy to download, updated frequently and i've not had any problems with viruses or anything since the switch. So, I'm really happy about that and would recommend it to anyone.

Hello,
Dear mate, I use Pc-cillin Internet securitiy 2007 with
one year subsciption and i am satisfied with its performance.
It is vista compatible. However if u have a faster computer
with more ram i suggest u to use Norton Internet sequrity
as its security measures are very tight and thus slows down the pc.
thanks

If you don't want to shell out money to get anti-virus software, getting a nice free anti-virus would be a good idea.In that case AVG Antivirus is really good which can be downloaded(www.grisoft.com) and is totally free for personal use.It has good update support every one or 2 days, sometimes even everyday of free updates can be downloaded from the net.It is quite good for home computers and doesn't have much disadvantage over other anti virus you can buy.If you're so worried about the reliability of free softwares,Norton Anti virus would be a good one.Kaspersky also is good enough. :)

at first I used norton but my computer started to freeze when I connected to internet and it never found anything for a year.
I tried then avg and 5 min later the virus was gone.
But I continue to search for a better antivirus on many forum and websites
and the ones that kept comming back at best are avast for free antivirus and kaspersky for the one you need to pay.
I've read that kaspersky can find and stop 99.9% of the virus while other just stop between 40 to 70%.
But when I tried I didn't like it that much so I'm using avast.
