Not a nice thing to hear

I am in a forum where myLot is discussed and this is what one user there had to say
"I've heard other people say they have been attacked by members that have been there long time. Most forums don't tolerate that but i suppose it's so big they might not be able to keep up with it unless it is reported.
It seems wrong that people should be chased off by the long term members because all forums need fresh content which new members bring. I didn't have that problem, I just couldn't settle there."
I have to respond there. What do you suggest I should say there.

If they are being bullied then they should report it. Are they being offered advice or really being bullied? Newbies may write single sentence posts which are a pain in the neck. Their posts should be meaningful to others. Not something like I had toast with jam for breakfast. It is a waste of my time to read such things. If they said they made the bread themselves and explained how they did it. How good it tasted and how nice it was to smell the bread cooking then that would be a better type of post.
No one should be bullied. Stand up to Bullies.

There are one or two members here who have been inclined to post just "Reported" in response to a new member's post without any attempt to explain about the Guidelines or why the post was reported. I can see that that might be construed (and justifiably so) as an attack and, perhaps, bullying. This is not the kind of response which myLot wants to see, as Alex has posted a while back (see below).
As the person you quote is reporting "what they have heard", it is difficult to reply to it except to say that, yes, it has happened from time to time and it's not something which myLot in any way encourages but it is practically impossible to actively moderate responses unless they are reported It should be pointed out that most members here are very welcoming to newcomers.
I just want to take a minute and remind everyone that if you are reporting a post, to please not comment on the post to announce that it was reported. It serves...

There is more than just announcement I see, how some violations are handled. Those who have been 'bullied' can always report too. I think that is how I will respond there. Thanks.

@allknowing Perfect. If a person feels they are being bullied, they should report it. If I see someone being bullied, I report it. I do not tell people I reported them, I just do it. If they post complaining that they were reported, many of us try to explain why.

@GardenGerty I too report and no one knows I do that and that is how it should be. Then no one cane blame users here that they bullying them.

There are usually two or three points of view about every disagreement. There are also times when the meaning and intent gets "lost in translation". There are also times where people ARE bullies. I have a friend who posts regularly here now that almost did not come back because another member said that her posts about her family, her crafts and her day to day life were boring and not appropriate. I am glad I could convince her to come back, though, as we all enjoy her posts. I would say if it is one person criticizing another it may be bullying. On the other hand, if several people have something to say about certain posts, the posts themselves may be faulty and the person posting should not get upset but should listen to the advice.

The problem is no one wants or likes to be openly criticised.

@allknowing I agree but at that moment I was disturbed much on the other member, not on my topic or criticism on it. So I withdraw it.

It's very common that people who break rules stomp off and then claim they were bullied. Mind you, there are also people who've been here a long time who still haven't grown up enough to deal with their 'issues' without ranting and blocking so it's not restricted to newbies. People who cry 'not fair' and claim to be victims are often the worst offenders.

As a rule we as members cannot take up issues directly with users but just report them.

Just as we cannot mention names of users here when we discuss issues same applies to this situation as well.

My daughter left myLot because a member "attacked" her views. My daughter is a very self-opinionated person and I can only guess that she was disagreeing with another myLot member but it turned out to be quite a big altercation that she left myLot.

@allknowing I think most of the old members are not here anymore. I usually just ignore people who disagree with me. It's just best to agree to disagree.

In the good old myLot these sort of situations were a regular feature. I suffered too. But we do not see that here. now.

You should have included a link to that forum discussion so we can study what they are actually saying.

@allknowing yes I know but i think we should still see the whole discussion, are there no other comments or responses?. It's rather difficult if we just quote one, take it out of context and draw a conclusion. It's alright if what you wrote was the only thing said then let's hear what others have to say.

Well that's sad to read. I think there's a difference between having a different opinion about something, bullying and attacking. I think some people think their just disagreeing but in fact their making others feel stupid because they don't agree with them...
We all should be more welcoming to the new people that come to Mylot.

@allknowing Oh I agree that could be it too. If they don't like that JJ tries to help them then that's on them.
But I have seen things get ugly on here too.

Unlike another, now defunct, site of which I was a member, I do not believe there is anything in the myLot guidelines preventing such discussion from happening here, on myLot itself.
OK, you're not meant to mention other members unfavourably in your posts here, admittedly - but I'd hate to feel I was being discussed about my behaviour here on a third forum, or on FaceBook (worse yet!).
What should you say on that forum? Ask if the aggrieved member(s) would like to give myLot another try, provided the myLot guidelines are read and understood...

Actually no.. I never felt so and I am a newbie. Although some are very straight forward here but it doesn't mean they are attacking. They have put their opinion and you satisfy them if you could that's so simple.

I think an opinion can be given in a correct way but never to put the other person down.
Somebody tried that with me and I quickly pointed out the many many faults she had in her writing.
Where I come from they say "if you can´t say something good about someone better not say it at all".
I stick to that.
If I don´t like or understand a Post altogether I will go back to it another time and see if I can get the gist of it and if not I leave it be.
