When It Comes to Mother’s Day

As Mother’s Days come and go I miss my mom more and more. I know I already wrote a bit about her but would like to share a bit more. Can’t even imagine how much time has passed since my mom died on March 24, 1996. That year she would have celebrated her 85 birthday in May. I am one of those children that was very welcome but born very late in life. When I came into this world my mom was 45 and my dad was 51. They were very happy about their baby girl but ten years later dad had already passed on.
My parents youth had been interrupted by WW II and having to escape from their homeland Latvia. They met once in Latvia and again in the DP or Displaced Person’s Camps in Germany. Finally they got married in Detmold, Germany. There my mom lost twins and one more baby which would have been my brothers and sisters. So it was with joy that they had at least one child.
As for myself I can say that my faith in God has helped me greatly in my life. Mom and I moved to Riga, Latvia in 1994 because mom wanted to at least spend the rest of her years in her homeland. Coming from a marriage that hadn’t worked out I was in agreement. However mom expected to return to the Riga which she had known and it had completely changed. She was therefore not a happy camper and then she got sclerosis on the brain and soon she didn’t even really know who I was.
Before all of this happened mom and I had to go through another funeral for my dad by interring his urn into the ground in the cemetery in the country here in Ranka, Latvia. This was where he had been born and raised and these were his wishes. Then the troubles began and the only reason I stayed after mom passed on was that I met my soul mate here. He has been a great help but the wanting to get back to my homeland hasn’t passed and I would so much want to return to the states while I am still able and the years haven’t taken their toll.
Today everything is blooming outside and it reminds me so much more of my mom because she loved flowers so much. I guess it was mostly because she was born in the month of May. As for myself my soul mate came with two children a son and a daughter. At the time we met he wanted to get divorced but his wife still hung on. However their life was never a life of happiness as the children were always pulled between mom and dad. Today his son Andris has a wife Vika and they had a beautiful baby girl Monika last September so it made my hubby and me grandparents.
His daughter lives nearby in Jelgava with her grandma and has found a wonderful man of her own and is getting married this summer. His wife unfortunately died of cancer and about a couple of years ago so did her dad. So things haven’t been too happy.
Personally I would have wished to have seen him get a divorce and hear that his wife had found someone new also and had married again. As for us in 1996 we were thrilled to find out that I was expecting. It was my first time and I was already in my late thirties. We had a daughter that was stillborn and this was the same year that my mom had died in March. We lost her at the end of July and another funeral was before us with a tiny white coffin. Then in September my hubby got a pancreatic attack and had to have a major operation and I thought I would lose him too.
How does one survive? Simply by giving a hand to the Lord and I did and he pulled me through. First of all my mom came to me to let me know it would be alright. Yes, she had already passed on but she was there with me as I was all alone. I’m sure she is taking good care of her grandchild and with dad beside her I know everything is just fine.
With the Lord to guide me each day I have survived and me and hubby are doing fine. Of course we also have our darling cat Sid so we count blessings every day.
I’m lucky that the Lord has helped me put all that behind me and there are not many days it all comes to mind. However it did this May with all the lovely flowers and trees blooming and I miss my mom so much
This song reminds me so much of her and of course who should sing it –Elvis.
Hope all you moms and grandmothers have a sunny Mother’s Day.

Wishing you a very Happy Mother´s Day for tomorrow and I loved reading that.
It was Mothering Sunday here last Sunday but I celebrate the two, the one in Great Britain and the one here in my own way of course.
Take care now.

You certainly have had your share of life's ups and downs. My mom passed away 6months ago and its going to be a difficult day without her. As you said no matter how many years go by you still miss your mom.

Sorry for your loss but you know our moms stay with us always. You can remember her the way I do mine by lighting a candle in her remembrance @Marilynda1225

So sorry for all the losses you have suffered Sandra.
And for the persistent longing for home. Could you come for a visit even?
Lovely song there by Elvis.
It is good your husband is such a good man for you.
Did you have any other children of your own then?

For awhile I counted 1996 as the year that wasn't but one has to be realistic after all @JudyEv
