Punishing North Korea government without hurting its people is an impossible task

US and China are in a difficult situation since they want to punish North Korea government, but they do not want to hurt its people. China is especially worrying about this aspect. US wants to stop all funds from entering North Korea, including the money sent home by North Koreans working overseas. US wants to impose total sanction on North Korea. If China cuts off all economic ties with North Korea, including food, oil, and remittance of fund from those North Koreans working in China, then the worst scenario is a country of 25 million people starve to death. There will be a huge mass of refugees fleeing into China. Bear in mind that the border is 1400 km. If China does not do the extreme, then there is no way to frighten the North Korea government and force it to stop nuclear weapon development. If China and US impose total sanction, North Korea may resort to the extreme measure of launching a nuclear war, and a cyber war against many countries.

It is really scary ..but having war will not help in solving problems. For me, I really do wish they can give each other another chance to do something in a very peaceful way..I hope they will think it over deeper before making a bad decision.."I say No to War" each of the country needs each others help..

I think North Korea will not destroy all the nuclear weapons it already built. The only way forward is for them to call it a day, and focus on other important aspect, such as building nuclear power plants to provide cheap electricity to all the people. The problem is that as long as US is in South Korea, and Trump keeps on adding troops, then North Korea will not stop its nuclear development.

Very scary thought. Nuclear weapons can cause long term damage, and affect everyone in the world. Any radiation leakage will be a huge disaster.

@Shiva49 Disarmament is not so easy in the case of nuclear weapon. US cannot just bomb the site that contains nuclear weapons because the radioactive leakage will affect millions and millions, and will pollute the land, air, and sea. They cannot just match over to North Korea too, because China and North Korea has a defense pact that is still valid. If anyone attacks North Korea first, then China has to help to defend it.

@scheng1 The issue is few are holding on to nuclear weapons and lecturing others that they cannot have them. That is not on and quite hypocritical. So we need to thrash out a solution and big powers should agree first and then others will fall in line. We have to start somewhere before the weapons are used making us wiser after the event! siva

It is hard to believe that there are still many North Koreans who support their leader. If not, then this situation will be changed and everything is easier.

The North Koreans have no access to outside news, and alternate views. If they dare to voice displeasure, they probably will die horribly. That is why they have to support their leader. They have no choice in this matter.

We have been listening out for this on the News here but they say nothing. They say nothing about China at all and their ideas. Just hoping there will be a peaceful solution indeed.

You won't hear about China on the news. The way they do things in China is very different. China government seldom issues official opinion or intention. They will only issue statement when they have finalize their policy. When they want to issue a warning to other countries, they will do that via media, especially through the editorial of Global Times It is widely believed that the editors of Global Times get the briefing and approval of China government before they publish the editorial opinion. You can find that the editorial pieces are very well-written, and provide insight into the politics of the world.
OP-ED >> Editorial President Trump’s troubles not going away To impeach Trump will need more evidence from further investigation. Many just think Trump often speaks off the cuff, which ends up in silly blunders. Source: Global Times | 2017/5/19 0:02:43 Seo

@scheng1 I have figured it out more or less what they might do. Its confusing as you can see our Mr. Rajoy making deals and having talks with the Chinese Government but then I guess that is a totally different story altogether when it comes to other about North Korea.

I suppose that North Koreans can prepare to starve again... This will end badly anyways, and more US and China will wait, more there will be a risk of nuclear war.

That is the dilemma of China too. it cannot afford to have 25 million refugees coming from North Korea. The North Koreans can only flee to China or Russia, not to South Korea, because US soldiers will attack from South Korea. It has to get North Korea to stop further nuclear development, but it cannot afford to cut off oil, and trade.

It's a no win situation. I wouldn't want to make that kind of decision.

When there is a war people of of the countries suffer so it's impossible that people of North Korea won't suffer if war happens.

Yes, even without a war, total sanction will cause the people to suffer. Imagine a country without food imported from other country, without money sent from other country, and without oil. The people will definitely die because corps will not get to the hungry people from the farm.

This is a really hard situation that ought to be examined with extra care and I hope any decision should be geared towards the welfare of the citizens of this country.

The intention of US is not about the North Koreans. US cares only that North Korea does not develop until it has a missile with nuclear head to hit US area. It seems that North Korea is more advanced than thought possible.
