Too cold for May!

Boxed in by weather

May 16, 2017 I have chores to do but it's too cold. Yes, I'm a cold weather wimp! The weather people tell us warm days are on the way this week (after today's chilly rain and possible hail this afternoon). My fingers are crossed! I'm tired of doing stuff indoors. And yet, I do enjoy using cold, wet weather as an excuse to hang out in cyberspace, where I can read about the lovely weather MyLotters are enjoying in other places. Today, my indoor assignment is clearing off my desk and sorting through boxes in my storage area, in the hopes of getting those culled and organized according to size. I'm anticipating a move, maybe next spring, and I've stashed these boxes as starters for that event. Are you enjoying pleasant weather? Or are you boxed in?

We had cooler than usual weather until last Friday, from Saturday the sun was back and the temperature is now very pleasant.

@blitzfrick The south of Switzerland has the same kind of weather and temperature as north of Italy (where I was born). Right now our temperature is of 12 Celsius (53.6 F) during the night and early morning and 22 Celsius (71.6 F) during the day. The hottest month is July, the temperature can go up to 34 Celsius (93 F), but usually it only lasts a few days.

@LadyDuck I'm fascinated with Switzerland's part in the history of the Roman Republic, during the time of Caesar. I've read that the Alpine snows had a huge impact on his military campaigns and conquering of Gaul and wars with Germania.

I always think of Switzerland as quite cool, if not shivering under tons of snow. What is your temperature there today?

I am SO jealous!! We are in the 80s today which is bearable but it will soon soar past the 100 degree mark. There are only a few months a year when it is bearable to be outside here in Phoenix. I get so depressed with the constant sun and heat I just want to shoot myself most of the year.

Oh my, I have a niece who would agree with you. I personally love extreme heat, it seems like having a free sauna! I'd gladly trade places with you.

@blitzfrick Done!! Seriously, we are trapped here. My sons hate it but one DIL's mom is in Mexico and she won't move far away from her. My other DIL is soon to be divorced from my other son but wouldn't dream of moving away from her mom and I won't leave my granddaughter. The only one who really likes it here is my ex husband. If there were jobs in the Midwest and his wife would leave, my oldest would be out of here in a second. It's not a sauna here, it's an oven. You walk outside and can barely breathe, it's so hot. I think you'd like it!

@dragon54u LOL! I was in Phoenix in the summer of 2011, travelling through the Southwest. I arrived at the hotel hot and hungry, and asked at the front desk if there was a fast food place nearby. The woman told me yes, there were two or three within walking distance. I thanked her, but walked away mentally scratching my head. The outdoor temperature was hovering around 114°F (~45°C) and there was no way I was going to walk anywhere when I had an air-conditioned car. I did get massively dehydrated on that trip, didn't even realize it until I got a huge headache and my thinking got fuzzy (or at least, fuzzier than usual, lol). When I mentioned it to a convenience store clerk, she advised me to drink something with electrolytes and recommended a brand which they stocked. A couple of bottles of that stuff later, the symptoms disappeared. The air, by the way, was so dry I expected it to burst into flames at any moment. Argh.

I do not care for cold weather at all. Had enough of it growing up in the Midwestern USA, so as soon as I was old enough and could afford it, I moved to the west coast. Today it is hot like summer, but we had cooler weather for a few days last week.

The west coast is mighty long, north to south. I moved to Oregon and enjoyed the cool weather here for many years. My old body is telling me lately it's time to seek warmer climes. We are finally having a few days of sun and warmth, but it is, after all, the 20th of May. A few years ago, the cold wet weather continued until July 4. Egad.

@Courtlynn When it gets to the mid-60s here (in the spring), lots of people go around wearing t-shirts, including me. But in the fall, when the temps drop down into the 60s, we're all hauling out our sweaters, lol!

Yes, isn't it nice? At the moment there are clouds over Milwaukie, and hail is predicted for this afternoon. But they're saying we're headed into a few days of warmer temperatures. YAY

Yes! cool, hot, cool, hot. It's been a really cool, wet May for us. The predictions are for 90°F (32.2°C) next week (1 day only), and I'm looking forward to it!

@responsiveme I started converting the temps to Celsius just recently. Also, converting $ to € because I've had to do them both the other way so I could get an idea of what was being discussed.

The weather has been awfully bad in April and so far in May. But tomorrow is supposed to get warmer. I want to garden too, but it is too cold for my tastes.

Yes, it's hard to resist setting out plants when the weather turns intermittently nice in the spring. My next door neighbor couldn't resist and many of her new flowers and plants were badly damaged in a brief but intense hailstorm we had a couple of days ago. She likes bonsai and her little plants really suffered, as she keeps them outside.

Today we are experiencing beautiful weather. I even opened my window. It has been chilly previously but not today. I, too am looking forward to summer time.

Right now, it is raining in our place. It is a welcome treat to stop the sun from treating us cruelly. It had been so hot a few days ago.

We must have traded weathers. The sun finally came out here today and we are promised several days in a row of sunshine and warmer temperatures. This is a welcoming treat for everyone here, I believe, and certainly for me!
