The Godfather - A true cinematic masterpiece or a lengthy, dull snorefest?

The Godfather has always been my favorite movie. Everything about the iconic Mafia movie is just perfect whether it is story, cinematography, background score or even the darkly lit sets of the movie. The movie boasts of some of the best acting skills on display by a terrifically talented ensemble cast being led by the towering performances of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. However, most of my friends who watched it said that it was lengthy, slow, dull and plain boring. They didn't even finish the movie. Movie trends keep changing and perhaps an epic like The Godfather wouldn't be made today. So the movie must be respected for what it accomplished 45 years ago. What's your opinion about the movie?

I love this collection. My son has the complete collection and we watch it every now and again.

That's great, the Godfather trilogy is me and my father's go-to movie series too. We have watched it numerous times and still, there are layers of meanings or subtle glances to discover.

@Shine10Mathew I agree, and I can agree it is a masterpiece. Coming from my immediate Sicilian Father.

People would enjoy it better if they read the novel first because there is simply a lot of details and explanations that it is impossible to show everything in the movie version.

Sheesh, show them Citizen Kane if they think The Godfather is boring! My vote: True cinematic masterpiece. I can certainly understand how people who have been raised in the era of special effects (where the movie is opening credits, loud music, explosions, then closing credits) would consider it "boring."

The Godfather is a cinematic masterpiece. Slow, dull and boring? I suppose your friends prefer the mindless noise, simpleminded plots and absurd dialogue of action hero Marvel movies.

For me I enjoyed it the first time, but it is not a movie I can sit and watch too many times, but Marlon Brando was fantastic in it. I prefer Goodfellas myself.
