Is there something you spend too much time cleaning?

I had to stop everything today to clean two things. One took no time at all, even though it's been bothering me for days. The other? Too much time! I burned popcorn in the microwave one night. The smell never seems to go away. Today I took some water with vinegar and some essential oil, put it into that microwave for 5 minutes and was able to clean it out easily. No more smell. That was a few minutes that have changed my life. My fan, however, is a major pain in my behind. It doesn't have a removable filter. In fact, when I looked up the manual for it, it states emphatically not to take it apart to clean. But the front of it was full of dust and cat fur. So when I run the fan (it's a tower fan), it irritates my eyes very badly. I finally brought a chair over to it, and a small pen. I sat for 30 minutes the first time, going into each section to try and pull the dust bunnies out. It takes forever! I got a good part of it all out and tried running it for a while, hoping the rest would blow out. They did not. I later went back with disinfecting wipes wrapped around the same pen and did it all again. The wipes took out most of the dust. It looks a lot better but it's still irritating my eyes. So I'll look at it again later when the sun comes around to this side of the building. I'll be able to see better what's going on in there. Have you had any problems with a cleaning project at your place? I'm ready to scream. Claudia

My blinds seem to take forever to clean and get smudge free, but my husband always takes over, so I just make sure he is around when I start cleaning them

Haha. That's very clever. If I start cleaning blinds, my husband disappears!

That sounds like such a chore. Hope you can get it clean enough that it stops irritating your eyes.

I even tried using the hose on the vacuum to clear out the dust bunnies, but they wouldn't budge! That would have been so much easier. I have no idea why this was constructed in this way, but you don't realize these things until after you have them.

@CRK109 You don't think to check how you'll clean it when you buy it all brand new and shiny.

@JudyEv yes, that's the problem. And most fans have removable filters. But not this one!

I can't say there is anything like that except the exhaust fan in the bathroom That is a pain to reach for me and clean but it gets done. I know what you mean with going through every section. I have a problem here with my floor fans, there is no way I can get the screws out to take them apart, they are so tiny and I have tried everything to do so.

Baking soda and vinegar mixed together should help you get rid of the odor.

The vinegar and essential oil took the odor away almost immediately. It's changed the whole atmosphere of my apartment so I can relax again!

I really thought I was missing something when I first began trying to figure out how to clean it, so I went online to find the manual. Not a word on how to clean it! I wish I had an old toothbrush around here. I bet that would speed things up a bit!

The shower wall has to be the only pain here. Especially because i hate the smell of bleach, so we take lots of breaks. but it works the best.
