For me, there is nothing better than taking the class. That is how I learned spanish. I don't think I would have ever been able to do it with a book or a cd or anything like that. I needed a teacher there to answer my questions and correct me with I said something wrong.

A book is a good way to start learning a new language. Also some audio materials and dictionary can help greatly. For best results I suggest going to the country where the language is natively spoken.
