Urban legends

I just read an article about local urban legends and how most are just cautionary tales meant to scare, but some are based on an actual incident. Example, the hook hand killer is most likely based off the lovers lane killer in Texarkana, that happened in 1946.
So the question is, does your area have a common legend, if so what is it? Is it based in truth or is it just a story to scare?

Interesting topic. I am not a native of the area so I am not sure about urban legends here. Where I used to live, there was a bridge that was supposedly haunted.

A lot of places seem to have a haunted bridge or the classic haunted railroad track

In our place there's a story for children that there's a man with a big sack and putting children inside that sacks if they are naughty.
