Fake Cabbage

I recently saw a video which showed how they are making cabbage these days. Gone are the days where you are first required to plant a seed into the soft fertile ground. Now all it takes is a solution bath, some green coloring, and a little molding with the hands. The leaves would not even burn, but rather turned into a glossy, stretchable plastic-like creation. What are we really putting into our bodies? Has anyone else seen this or anything similar?

I don't think that's edible. Maybe its just for an art project.

No. It is in the market and it's difficult to differentiate between the two.

They showed the consumer removing the cabbage from a labeled bag bought from a local grocery store. It was purchased in the produce section of the store for consumption.

@anamika161088 Really? I just bought some cabbage for cabbage soup. This is scary.

Japanese restaurants, in particular, use plastic and wax mock-ups of the items on their menus so that customers can see what the food looks like. Of course, this fake food is NOT for human consumption!
Always check Snopes before believing that something like this is true!
A video of a man making wax display vegetables has been used out of context to suggest China is dumping "synthetic cabbages" on unwitting consumers.

Interesting. Went to this site and looked, but it failed to explain why the cabbage taken out of the grocery bag did not melt when burned. Perhaps the people in the video just staged this with camera cut outs. However it is a simple test to see if your cabbage leaves will burn before eating, for those with concerns about what they are putting into their bodies. It's not like we have never been lied to before about the safety of the foods that we consume.
