Is social media sites and apps effective? What social media and apps do you use? How has social media changed your life?

Social media is good for keeping in touch with people round the earth and knowing things happening on the earth. Sometimes something can be learnt as well. But I don't feel a big change in my life rather than checking timeline every now and then.
