Have you ever written a fan letter--why or why not?

A few weeks ago I wrote a very rare 'fan' letter (I think it may have been the 5th one I have written in over 70 years) to Rita Mae Brown just thanking her for the years (and books) of enjoyment that she given me--today I received a very gracious 'thank you' note as only a true Southern LADY can write including a few personal remarks.
Now it goes in a frame and up on my "Wall Of Fame"!
If you want to read a classic book read her "Rubyfruit Jungle"--a moving biographical story--she has also written an excellent book for writers--if you are a cat lover and/or an animal lover you have to read her 'Sneaky Pete' mystery stories where her cat and farm animals help her solve mysteries in her small southern town--she has written books about being "Master of the Hounds".

I've never read her, but I think I may look to see if the library has any of her novels.
How lovely that she responded personally! I'm not one to write fan letters. But I think if the recipient takes time to read and reply personally, it becomes more of a human exchange than the standard fan mail. How wonderful that you took the chance and she responded so graciously!

If you can get Rubyfruit Jungle first--once you start you won't put it down!!
And the books she 'writes' with the cat Sneaky Pie are fun.

She is on the level of Maya Angelou--if you can get her book Rubyfruit Jungle first--it is a serious enthralling biography and then read her light-hearted Sneaky Pie books.

@GreatMartin Maya Angelou is a very interesting person. I have never read anything from her but saw her on tv a few times.

@GreatMartin I'm definitely going to read it. I think the library has it, if not, I'll download it onto my Kindle.
