Our grandson Nathan whom we helped raise for seven years after his mother died, will be 14 tomorrow. Where did the years go?
He and my husband are out on the creek fishing today...hope they catch some cat fish! I'm cooking Nathan a birthday supper tonight and I told him I would fix whatever he wanted. Did he choose steaks on the grill? Pork chops with all the fixings? Nope. He wants chili. So chili it is.
His dad, our son is coming to eat with us after he gets off work, then we'll open presents and have birthday chocolate pie. (He wanted my chocolate pies instead of a cake.)
Tomorrow night he'll go out for another birthday dinner (on his actual birthday) with his dad, his dad's fiance and her son (who also turned 14 a few days ago!)
The guys are back from fishing so see ya later!
Oh, I asked "14...how did that happen?"
Grace of God.

@AbbyGreenhill I had my daughter young and she had her first at a young age, so I was a grandmother at 42! Our son didn't have Nathan until the age of 36, so he got kind of a late start.

Thank you. We really do share a special bond. I adore all my grandkids, but Nathan's the only one I was mama and grandma to.

Happy birthday to Nathan! Did they catch any catfish?
I love that he wanted chili and chocolate pie instead of steak and birthday cake! I love chili, but I think I'd choose something closer to steak for a birthday meal. I would probably eat pie instead of cake, though! And I know I'm not alone. A friend of the family has a boy who asked for Granny's pie on his birthday last year instead of cake. I think she ended up making both because she didn't want to disappoint the other kids

I'm sure he'll get a cake tomorrow night and I'll put a candle in the pie to blow out! I thought he would ask for a really special meal, but since he wanted chili, that's what it will be. My husband and son also always want pies for birthdays rather than cake. They only caught two catfish, but had fun fishing together.

@1creekgirl My son is looking forward to fishing with his Daddy this summer. They are both really just learning, but they went out a couple of times last summer and had fun together.
I love chili too. In fact, reading about Nathan's birthday dinner makes me want to put it on our menu for the week!

It seems like the older I get, the faster they grow up.

IT goes so fast, doesn't it? One day it seems they'll never be potty trained and it seems the next day they are all grown up! Every second is precious.

I know. How come when we finally appreciate the important things in life, time goes by so much faster?
