Now what?

Choose your own door, create your own destiny.

As soon as people are done with their studies, the first question that pops into their heads is "Now what?". There are two types of people : the ones who have always been on the right track and have it all figured out and then there are the ones who have never had the faintest idea of what they wanted to do, they just go with the flow. I want to discuss the latter because they are the ones that are in dire need of this. As a matter of fact, I myself fall into the second category. In India, it's commonplace for students to pursue a course that their parents think is best for them. And after they get their respective degrees, the question that haunts them is what they should be doing now since they have absolutely no interest in what they have studied so far and now they do not have the knowledge to pursue a totally unrelated career. I'm currently going through this period. And it just feels like I'm living my life in uncertainity and complete chaos. And yet, here I am bringing hope to myself all day long. While writing this article, it suddenly dawned on me that if this is the case with me then I should feel lucky instead of feeling miserable and terrified. And I am suddenly reminded of a quote from Fight Club, “It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.”. The best thing about not having your life figured out so soon is that you are free to try anything and everything. The world is your oyster. You can take up any hobby or any skill and then experiment with it. You wouldn't be limited to just one thing. You could try your hand at everything and then think of what fits you the best. As for me, I have signed up for a few courses that caught my eye and now I'm ready to open the doors to new opportunities and a big pile of knowledge. So, save yourself the trouble of worrying about it for the hundredth time and put your brains to good use, because only you can free yourself from the prison of your own mind. "And then, something happened. I let go. Lost in oblivion. Dark and silent and complete. I found freedom. Losing all hope was freedom."

Thank you :) I added the caption "Choose your own door, create your own destiny.", thinking it would be visible on the page. But turns out you can only see it if you point the cursor to it. Needless to say, I'm new to myLot :D

I'm 'convinced' (the meaning of the root of the word "Faith") that each person's purpose is 'some version of The Great Commission' ... whatever you went through before, it prepared you for what you go on to do later. Don't 'live in the past,' but use the past to uncover the clues that reveal the future!

Very happy for you that you have completed your course, and also did what your parents asked you to do. Have you started working and studying at the same time? Usually, if you come from a 'not so rich family' you will think of finding yourself a job straight away to help out, and if you are a married person then you have the responsibility to get a job. But if you are a single person and from a rich family then you will not have much to worry about.

@EverSoConfused I'm sorry I don't know much about earning online. This is the first time I am doing this (earning online)... But if you have completed your course and can work, why don't you try? I know it's hard as you are not interested in it, but think of your parents and how much they put in you... You can work and earn online at the same time. Jobs are very hard to find these days, so if you can get one, try to hold on to it.. Good luck and all the best.

I'm not married and I'm not from a well-to-do family either. I applied for some of the companies that came to my college but because of my lack of interest in Engineering ( the course that i have just completed ) , I couldn't do well. As for now, I'm sitting jobless. To be brutally honest, this is why i signed up on this site. I thought it payed well. But i came to know yesterday that it doesn't. So, I'm probably going to give up on the idea of earning online. Any suggestions ?

I think Engineers can do anything in this world. Engineering not only includes 4 years of study but also gives experience of lots of minute things like working in situations totally against us and giving exams despite getting continuous backs or organizing events in very small amount ,loving someone by sacrificing semester results .All these things looks very simple but very difficult to survive and engineers are getting more than this along with their studies in short span of 4 years. Being an engineer before saying NO I will definitely give it a try to test my capability. It is this ability which we learn during our engineering - No matter the consequence I will try to get maximum out of a situation. Survival is what we are familiar with. We don’t care whether situation is in our favor or not, if we are assigned with some work we will accomplish it or rather try getting close to it. Simply want to say as you are Engineer do not lose hope. Keep trying always with positivity. By the way, may i know your Engineering field/Branch?

@EverSoConfused yes you are right. I'm Electronics and Telecommunication Engineer and i'm always proud of it. That's not worst. If you like biochemical field, you can try in research centres or you can join any course of interest. Do you have any other field of interest?

@PBKING That's what the problem is. I hate it. And because of my lack of interest and understanding of the field, there's nothing I could do in this particular branch.
