Meeting people from the internet

Have you done it before? I was thinking about this after reading about @LoriAMoore and @FourWalls having lunch together today. I joined a parrot board after adopting my Eclectus to learn about how to properly care for her. I quickly got a reputation for being blunt and somewhat "troublesome" but they kept me around because I was funny and everyone liked me well enough. Eventually I wound up meeting up with several members and they were all surprised at how quiet I was and not nearly as "forceful" as my internet personality seemed to be. I also met some members from Epinions at meet and greets. I still see one of them regularly at my gym. They all were pretty much as they presented themselves and I think they thought I was the same. I never had a bad experience with any of them. I think once you feel comfortable enough to go out of your way to meet someone that you "know" from the internet, it is most likely going to be a good experience.
