Good Old Days, How True?

I have wondered on this general axiom. When I hear the GOOD OLD DAYS, I wondered how good was it? Technologically, we are better. Scientifically, we are better. Communication-wise, we are better. Medical advancement, we are better. Transportation, we are better. Standard of living, we are better. GOOD OLD DAYS, does it still apply in our time?

Not sure on the last points : 30 years ago I was taking a train like a bus, there was at least 1 train/hr including during the night for my destination. Now there are no more night trains, half of the remaining need a booking, there is less space available for a passenger... Speaking of planes, my conclusions would be the same : we had faster planes (like Concorde) and they were more comfortable than today. Planes tickets are cheaper though. And I remember the good old days when we had no speed limitation on roads and highways, no mandatory security belts. People were adult and responsible at this time. And for the standard of living, you are wrong : middle classes had a better standard of living than today. Actually the richs are more richs, all the others are more poors than they were a few decades ago.

Nice thought @topffer. True the gap between the poor and the rich is wider, but the standard of living is better geographically. The standard of living in some clan has improved while others has fallen

@ChykeO It may be true in Africa, not in Europe, and believe me it will not improve : good old days are definitely behind us.
