27 Words Trump Wouldn't Say In NATO Speech

“We face many threats, but I stand here before you with a clear message: the U.S. commitment to the NATO alliance and to Article 5 is unwavering.” Donald Trump's National Security team, including his National Security Advisor, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State had been assured Trump would reaffirm our commitment to Article 5 and they had worked for weeks preparing his speech which included the words saying just that. They were blindsided and as stunned as our allies who are the leaders of the NATO nations Trump met with recently. I honestly believe this illegitimate POTUS who is the first one to NOT be considered the "Leader of the Free World" is so ignorant and uninformed that he's unaware Article 5 has only ever been invoked ONCE and that it was for the US following the horrific attacks on 9/11/2001. Soldiers from NATO nations fought alongside our own brave troops in Afghanistan and many of them gave their lives. Trump's ignorance was on further display when, while making his statement withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, he said he represented "Pittsburgh, not Paris". Donald, do you even realize soldiers from Pittsburgh and Paris fought together and in too many cases gave their lives together? Hopefully the leaders and people of these great nations, our oldest and best allies, know Donald Trump doesn't speak for all or most Americans but I can sure understand if they feel that with friends like Trump who needs enemies.

He came in Europe to bully NATO members not investing 2% of their GDP for the military, and refused to tell that USA would help an European NATO member if the country was invaded. When Mrs Merkel said that Europe needs now to control its own destiny, it is common sense. During years UK has refused to develop an European army. Now that UK is no more part of the EU, it is time to do it, as we cannot rely anymore on the NATO as long as the USA will have Trump for president. And indeed we know that Trump does not represent the opinion of all Americans.

I'm so thankful that you realize all Americans aren't so ignorant and basically heartless and untrustworthy. I hope with all my heart he won't be in office for very long. I was truly horrified as I listened to his speech and as I watched his disgusting behavior towards the NATO and G7 leaders on his first foreign trip and as he made his disgraceful speech withdrawing from the Paris Accord. For what it's worth, even the majority of those who voted for him disagree with him on these issues.

An hour or so ago Trump was appearing with the Romanian President and he apparently did say he was committed to Article 5. Of course that came AFTER he yet again attacked all the NATO nations for not paying their "fair share" and said they should be made to pay all they owe going back through the years.

@anniepa All countries bordering Russia are not ease with Trump telling something one day, and the opposite the day after. I want to start a discussion for Trump's birthday, I will not forget to speak of NATO.

So are the majority of Americans. Please keep in mind that 10,000,000 more of us who voted, voted against him than voted for him. He only won by playing the Electoral College.

@DWDavis I also keep in mind that the Electoral College can be changed if the citizens do something about it.

@marguicha It will take an amendment to the Constitution to change the Electoral College, but I do think it is time some changes be made. I don't believe in a straight popular vote, because then every future President would be elected by California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, and the other 46 states would never have a say.

I hope the leader that is now considered the leader of the free world will step up and defend anyone that is in trouble both militarily, and financially.....Like the usa has done for over a hundred years....But that will never happen because they will have to depend on America for support, or they will fail... I am proud to finally have a President that is putting America first, and will not stand for everyone taking advantage of America anymore...It is about time something is done... All this climate Change is just a bunch of garbage...and draining this nation of tax dollars...The climate has been changing since the beginning of time and will continue to change until the end of time....Do you realize that President Trump represents the United States of America not the world....President Trump took a oath to defend and protect the United States....Not the world....

Donald Trump's loyalty lies with Russia and Putin. He doesn't represent me and he sure isn't defending or protecting me or the people I care about. I've never felt less safe and secure in my life.

@dlr297 You must really have a crush on Agent Orange! Never has he had a word of criticism against Putin while he treats our allies with total disrespect. Out of curiosity, where DO you get your news? Or does "God" whisper is in your ears?

@anniepa Trump has never been loyal to Russia, and my guess is that he never will...When WWIII breaks out the USA and Russia will be on opposite sides.. and if we go to war with north Korea, We will also be on opposite sides with Russia.... It is a real shame that you keep listening to all the hype, conjecture, and down right false news stories the media is putting out their....

He won't help NATO if ever they need his help, but he will willingly and freely offer the lives of US soldiers to help Putin.

@topffer Putin is also threatening to take military action against Sweden if they consider joining NATO.

@anniepa All I read from him is that Sweden joining NATO would be another threat for Russia. Sweden does not need NATO to hunt Russian submarines in their waters.

I would not tell that. He wants US to be a closed society and his dream would be autarcy. He will not help more a NATO country than Putin, although his NATO policy is momentarily a dream policy for Putin who might decide to invade Ukraine completely.

We get such conflicting News about him on the News that we never know who is right or wrong. What does come across so very clearly is the way he handles certain things. He could certainly try to do better in diplomacy and respect the other people around him. Just my way of seeing him. I feel sorry for his Ministers in a way it has to be very confusing for them knowing which way to act from one day to the next. Maybe he might get better as time goes on.

The question I have is now that DT has given up the United States' position as the Leader of the Free World, which nation will fill the gap. Right now it looks more or less like Germany is taking on the mantle.

The EU might take the leadership for the Paris climate agreement, as many EU countries were already more involved than were the US, but I do not think that any country wants to become "the leader of the free world".

@topffer No nation may want to take on the mantle, yet the mantle may be thrust upon them.
