For years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snubbed Deep Purple on the pretext the band was a one hit wonder. Fans demanded their inclusion and countless performers from Gene Simmons of KISS to Metallica lobbied for the band. Finally the HOF got the message and Deep Purple was inducted. Deep Purple is more than just the legendary “Smoke on the Water.” You want a no-BS band without pretensions, angst or gimmicks and just rocks hard and loud then Deep Purple is for you.
Deep Purple ranks among early influences on heavy metal and progressive rock. The band has a long history of turmoil and turnover with the classic lineup being Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Ian Gillan (vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Jon Lord (organ) and Ian Paige (drums). There are numerous Deep Purple songs to exemplify how hard and loud they rocked in the 70s. The title track from their 1974 album, “Burn” is scorching rock. David Coverdale is lead singer on “Burn” having replaced Gillan.

I wonder which "one hit" the R&R HofF meant...."Highway Star," "Hush," "Woman From Tokyo," or "Smoke on the Water."
And Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were a one-hit wonder ("Why Do Fools Fall in Love"), but they're inducted. And then there's the Moodies....
Those bozos in Cleveland should hire someone who knows something about music so as not to lose any more credibility.
Oh, thumbs up for Deep Purple.

We know the R&R is a farce. They never looked beyond Smoke on the Water in this case.

Love these guys great song, how is youth music. I think that is what we forgot. Where do we go from here. Where would these guys want to go. Sounds so sad or we are way better than them if you know what I mean.

Deep Purple was a hit here especially Smoke on the water and Highway star ( my favorite), they performed here and guess they were also popular in some parts of Asia, I think they made a live album in Japan. I didn't know they were somewhat bypassed or ignored.

Can't go wrong with either vocalist. Both are powerhouses.

A great track from a great band. Highway Star is probably my favourite track and I do love Hush! I agree that the band were overlooked too long to get into the HOF, especially as they influenced so many other great bands.
