You need to have good contacts in China.
People who don't have contacts there is at disadvantage.
My brother have been there many years.
China may be profitable if you are doing the right way.

China a communist country what it was 5 years ago is different from what it is today. The country is known as salesman country. They sell from pin to elephant to all parts of the world. Their labour efficiency is highly appreciable. Quality wise though not superior, they deliver cheap goods which has a mass appeal. Who is making losses? There is a great support by Chinese government for manufacturers and traders, because it wants to earn every single dollar against competition. China is a sure bet.

according to news reports, china is a booming country, they are even putting a dent in the petroleum importation. i know a few investors who opted to do business there coz of the cheap overhead. however, for anyone who is to put up a business, he should get first-hand info on matters by going there to see and feel the market and the prospective line of industry.

I think that wherever you decide to invest or do business in, the important thing is to do enough research to know the market, country, product, politics & economy of the country. You shouldn't just sink your $$ in recklessly... My 2 cents worth! ;P

China has a huge potential of marketplace for selling and buying and can't see anything that would stop you to do both of them, personally i would start a personal business. Good luck!

It's a booming market, for sure. It has problems with working conditions, environmental concerns, etc. and this may limit its growth somewhat, as the country will need to adjust these problems as it seeks to enter the World Trade Organization.
As an American with no first hand knowledge or contacts in China, I would invest through stocks or mutual funds that hold stocks in China. Any other way would be, for me, too risky.
