Visiting Family in New York

My Dad built the house I am in right now, with the help of friends who knew what they were doing. In 1953.. My sister owns it now but before she and her husband moved in they made the house bigger and more open concept. It is lovely and I know my parents would be proud of the way it is now.
I decided to visit because there was an illness in my extended family and I am in between cataract surgeries.
I visited the person who is ill and am so glad to find a feisty woman who says this new cancer is not getting me this year, I want another year.... I love her positive attitude I've known her for years and she is a fighter.
While here my sister and I organized our camping stuff, it's piled in the garage, I have a bit more at home I forget to bring but the next time I come here it will be a few days before we camp, so glad the work is done.
We planned two weeks of menus and made shopping lists, we might just buy it now and freeze what needs to be frozen, pack up everything else and save the fresh food for just before we leave in July.
Looking forward to camping.
Right now I am more than a little behind here on myLot but I will catch up as soon as I can.
I go back to Canada on Sunday and my next eye surgery will be on the 15th.
I hope everyone here is having fun and enjoying what is going around you.
I am loving the weather, first rain and now nothing but sunshine.

Enjoy! This sounds like so much fun! I will be thinking about you and your eye surgery--my husband's family is from up near Conesus--and I have never been but your picture looks similar to what their homestead looks like--

I grew up in the Saratoga area, your hubs family was close to the Finger Lakes...its a gorgeous area of NY with so much to see. I hope you get to visit someday. Had my other surgery yesterday, all is well. Feeling good and love the brightness of the new lenses.

@ramapo17 The green is beautiful. It was lovely while I was there but we had the air on a couple of days when it was too hot.

My grandfather built the house where my Mom was born, this was his job to build houses. I am glad that his children have not sold the house, it is empty, but it is always owned by the family. We are having a very nice days, sunny but not too hot.

The family home is our history, I have no idea what will happen to our fathers house when Elaine goes...but she has kids who can rent it or sell it... or she will live forever...

I'm glad she's a fighter and hope she does have another year. It takes a lot of good planning for camping trips. My parents camped and my mother was looking over her lists well ahead of time and getting ready for it. I hope your cataract surgery goes well.

My dad used to sit under that tree when he was gardening, all that grass used to be his garden, it was huge. I have no idea why the photo showed up on its side but I can't get it to stand up strait...It might be my Dad's spirit playing with me. He was a joker...

@PainsOnSlate Oh this is a sweet story. I'm happy that you have this memories of your dad, I love to remember my dad as a happy and funny guy, just as you do with yours.
I'm sure he was and is still a great joker.
I tried to fix your photo

It sounds like you're in a really good place right now.
With loved ones, and at that stage where you can feel the benefits of the first surgery and get your body ready to heal from the next one coming up.
I hope, and I'm pretty sure that you will, enjoy yourself.
Next week you'll be back to the limited sight and activity after the surgery, but after that, look out!

I enjoyed my time with my family in NY, and I had my surgery yesterday and it was easy compared to the first - only because I knew what to expect. It is healing fast and I'm sure by mid week next week I will be without thoughts of worry or anything, I will be painting a lot - to stock the store for the time I will be camping....

@moffittjc I discovered I had a yellow haze over my eyes because of the cataracts. It blew my mind when I had the first one fixed, I'd cover one eye and look outside, the new one was bright and clear and beautiful, the one that wasn't done showed the same view covered with a yellow haze. That haze is gone now

Hey, that picture looks a bit sideways. Did the photographer take if from a lay down position? Just kidding. Hope the eye surgery goes with no problems at all for you on Thursday. Back when my dad had surgery on both eyes for cataracts, he went through the process with ease.

Thanks for the laugh... I have no idea why its on its side, on my computer it is standing tall. I am getting ready doing the drops needed for the eye that was done and the one now that will be done tomorrow. The end result is awesome so far and I have faith that will continue.
