Do you prefer traditional music or modern music in church?

My husband complains that the new choruses and songs in church don't move him the way the old hymns did. He says they have no meaning. He prefers piano music to the modern music band we have. He doesn't like organ music. Myself I love organ music and old hymns, but I can also rock out to the new stuff.
I don't think any kind of music in church is right or wrong. I believe that people should express their love and praise in whatever way they are comfortable and easiest able to do so.

I totally agree with you. I like both styles of music and the point is I get angry with my husband when he says contemporary music has no meaning. There are many traditional hymns that are taken from Scripture, but there are also many new songs that quote it directly. It's for sure both appeal to certain tastes. I don't think either side is wrong, and I think it's wrong to say that one is!!

I also don't think any kind is right or wrong in church, but I prefer traditional. Some pop or contemporary church tunes kind of remind me of a parody from Saturday Night Live. They can be beautiful if done right, but I've seen some awful renditions (mostly at weddings when the bride or groom's brother or sister is the performer).

I love contempary music in churches. My church has very modern music and we have a happy elderly congregation but a very fast growing young congregation. I think the signs of a healthy church is the number of young people in their pews on a Sunday.

I agree with you. Music is just part of worship, the important thing is we praise and worship god in the sincerest way we can.
