This is a channel on youtube. I don't watch it too often but I have subscribed to it and have it just in case I want to watch something. The majority of the videos within have some semblance of history to them and there are "how to" videos. Such as "How to make ice cream the Victorian way." I will share the link for all of those who are interested. Like I said, I've not watched many and mainly the ones I have are "how to's" on the Victorian era.
Welcome to the official English Heritage YouTube channel where you can find all of our videos. Subscribe and be the first to see our historical videos. If yo...

I used to be a member of english heritage and the national trust when me and an ex used to go round the country looking at their various properties...meant you could get in free and as we did a lot of visiting it was well worth it.

I am sure it was well worth it. Was free the only perk to it though?

@ScribbledAdNauseum you got a magazine every so often and also quite a few places did members only events. Free is a big thing though as they had hundreds of historic buildings/places so if you travelled a lot as we did it was well worth the money. Combined with the national trust we could get into nearly a thousand places of interest and the fees were very reasonable. I just looked and with the national trust you can actually become a volunteer at a place near you. I'll probably have another look at that sometime as I do need some sort of hobby I think.

I'll actually maybe try english heritage again first.
We care for 400 historic places that span six millennia. Thanks to our donors, we're carrying out the largest conservation programme in our history.

I do not think that making ice cream or a cup of tea the Victorian way would really appeal to me.

I wouldn't even consider the way they show making ice cream as particularly being "Victorian." It might have been introduced in that time period but people still use that method today... I have only (yet) watched the ones to do with the Victorian Era. It follows the head of the kitchen who shows the methods she uses to cook.

Mumsy and her friends are English Heritage and National Trust members, so they're always tootling off to find new places to visit. There are a lot of places, and they are expensive, so if you come to the UK and want to visit a lot of these places it may work in your favour to become a member!!

There are some people who are actually living like it is still the Victorian period. Clothes, no electricity, cooking, etc. Kind of crazy!
