i think it's good having those 'fine penalties'...because of that, singapore is a very clean country. it's always nice to be there!

thanks for your comments.. singapore is easily managable coz of its size, progressive economy, yes, i just hope that it wont become another Japan where standard of living is too high and everything turns costly. :S

I like cleanness and order but is it really necessary with all those fines to make people behave...? Perhaps it is a way to get in some money...but how do they know if someone has chewing gum in a hidden pocket? Do they stop people in the streets and search them???

Well, Singapore like any other country has fines as a good reason to prevent people from doing what their country sees as unnacceptable, Now from the US We'd see chewing gum fine as kind of silly, but we can understand the fine of not spitting chewing gum into the proper trash recepticle, as I have seen pillars of Bubblegum, and that is naaaaaaaaasty. Spitting fine may seem silly to many, but it makes sense as many colds, etc, can pass through spit, and I think that is a good fine. - DNatureofDTrain

Yes.It is a country that always fine people for littering and whoever that breaks the law.I am born there and i dislike the government. Most people there are also rude, arrogant and dumb.

I don't know if it is fine... good about smoking and spitting... but what do you mean about $200 chewing gum possession?
