Aww. What happened?

I was checking my activity to see if I've already achieved my goal of participating in 10 discussions today. I counted 5 discussions listed. But wait... didn't I already count 5 a few discussions ago? Turns out, at least 2 of the discussions I've participated in was gone. They were made by the same person (someone new, I think) so I checked her profile and sure enough she only has 1 discussion left to her name, and it's not the ones I participated in. Sad. What happened? I suppose she must have deleted them for whatever reason... They seemed to be ok topics that I wouldn't think violated any rules of the site. In any case, I actually thought one of them as quite a good topic, so I will repost my response here. Good thing I was on my phone earlier and was typing out my responses on Google Keep first before copying them into MyLot. So now, I still have a copy of what I wrote in Keep. (Btw, thank chuck the discussion deleted isn't the one where my response is 3 times the length of this response. Lol! But that's another topic...) She asked about a paperless society, and whether it will make things better or not. My response was: "Well, that is interesting! But first, what is the alternative? If you mean for electronic things to replace pen and paper, something has to be done first - make gadgets available (and affordable) to all, and ensure continuous supply of electricity (or long battery life) and internet service. I'm trying to make myself more organized and pen and paper is still what I consider as the number one tool to help me. Gadgets (phones and computers) only come second precisely because these become inaccessible when power or service is out. Without gadgets, and without pen and paper, we'll be left only with our minds. I envy those who have a very good memory and well organized minds. I can't say I have either... " I realize that I didn't exactly answer her question of whether this will make things better or not, but I thought it would come up in the ensuing discussion anyway. Little did I know that there would be no further discussion... So to answer: I suppose, yes, being paperless has it's good effects, particularly in the environment. Less paper needed, less trees to cut, less deforestation, etc. But still, what I said remains - before the world can go altogether paperless, there are things that must be ensured first. Besides, I think paper is one of the easiest things to recycle. Even I recycled paper back in high school (my project). The world would benefit more if something can be done about the different types of plastics that's accumulating. What do you think?
Ok. First off, I will not deny that in the (supposedly) 6 years I have been here (according to my profile), I've probably been NOT here more often than I have...

I still use papers for notetaking. It probably sounds ideal to go paperless but there's no guarantee that technology and gadgets would always work in all situations. Plus like you said, you can always recycle.

Very true. At the moment, I wear a bag on me at all times, and in it, I have (not one but three!) notebooks and a couple of pens. Sure, my phone is in there, too. But sometimes it needs to leave the bag and charge somewhere. Haha.

I am a list maker and always have to have pen and paper in my bag. Going paperless is all well and good until there is a problem with the technology/gadgets you are using. I used to always use my phone calendar instead of diary and missed appointments when my phone broke so I am back to the old fashioned diary now.

Exactly! This is why I still prefer to have a pen and paper on hand. I can't always be at the computer - I run around the place. And what if there's a power outage? Or my phone's battery is running low and I have to leave it in its charging place in that corner in my bedroom? But a pen and paper is always accessible even when there's no electricity. But I do like the calendar on the phone, because I like the alarms to call my attention to tasks when the time comes. But whenever I have a big day coming - for instance, a day where I have many different places to go to and many tasks to do, I do like making a list in my notebook so I won't forget what I'm supposed to accomplish.

Yes. Though I am unsure if it was deleted by the admin, or deleted by the user herself. Anyway, any thoughts on the paperless issue?

Ah! So I take it you mean you need paper. Would you consider taking notes with gadgets?
