Tigers at Tayto Park, Ireland

A day or two ago we visited Tayto Park in County Meath, Ireland. This is a great park for families with a number of rides available. Vin and I went mainly to see the animals as there are a few exotic animals there as well as a petting zoo with lots of cute lambs and goats. There were also ten or so Bennett’s wallabies including an albino one so we got a bit homesick seeing those. Mostly the cages were large and well set out although the secretary bird had a very small ‘office’ and walked the fence the whole time we were there. However the two tigers were quite active and we were able to get several nice photos of them. Vince had the best one of the two of them so I’ll put this up here.

I love County Meath but we didn't go to Tayto Park, we did go to Kells and enjoyed that. I hope your trips is going well, sounds like it is. Happy to hear about your adventures.

There are so many lovely places here. I'm hoping we'll get back to Kells for a better look around.

@JudyEv There is a lighthouse folly which is rather unusual and of course the abbey which is a ruin.

I like going to the zoo. It is nice to hear that the animals have a good living environment in Toyto Park. The animals need more space so that they will feel happy.

Most zoos seem to be better managed than they once were. I hate to see animals walking the fences of their cages.

That's a good photo and it looks as if they have a nice enclosure.

The enclosure was impressive with a shallow pond and plenty of vegetation. Even so, I noticed they were treading the same paths round the area.

I love Tigers @JudyEv and wouldn't mind having one; however, my 'regular' 13 cats probably would be its lunch.

The big cats always impress me with their size too. There was also a cougar on display but he was hiding in his grotto and I couldn't get a decent photo of him.

@silvermist There was a marvellous dessert menu in the hotel where we were trying to access the internet but I didn't have any. Mostly we're trying to cook our own food and save money. The bread here is nicer than that at home. We'll have a few meals out when we're in France I'm sure.

@LadyDuck It is more an old style zoo with quite small cages. The pandas are a great attraction of course.

Most zoos seem to be doing better in that regard now. I think Vienna Zoo was about the worst we saw as regards size of cages, etc.

Tigers are definitely my favorite of all animals. Nice photo. Have you ever visited the BlackJaguarWhiteTiger web site? I love to see all their big cats that they rescue and all the little babies too.

That's a beautiful photo of the tigers. Maybe the 'secretary bird' was making certain everyone stayed in line - not getting out of hand - as she walked the fence watching everyone.
