Why It's Important to go to Pride.....

So a lot of people don't understand why do Gay people have a Pride Parade, some even think it is unfair.... To me i feel like now more then ever it is very important, we are lucky to live in a time and place where we are allowed to freely be ourselves, we can not live in fear, we can not let the horrendous acts by mad men scare us into never participating in things that could very well change our lives. Having been out and proud as a gay man for over 10 years i embarrassingly admit i have only been to 5 Pride Parades, many of the reasons i didn't go had to do with the fact i had no one to go with. I posted on my facebook and have had offers from so many friends, moreso new friends which makes me happy, i am genuinley moved by there kindness and understanding. I live in fear everyday, i have severe panic and anxiety alot of the time, so i try my best to fight through it, i feel like Pride only happens once a year, i think it's a great way to meet friends, and to experience Gay culture, one day i'd like to be more involved, i feel like i really need to come out of my shell more, life is passing me by.... I am 30 and have been single for over 6 years, i really need to put myself back out there. I cannot let depression and anxiety conquer me, i had so much fun at Pride last year i feel it is so important i go this year and just enjoy it. Photo is of me and a group of friends at Pride last year, my Best Friend Kim and her girlfriend Alex, there neighbors Theresa and Ashley with 2 of there kids, and friends Jessica and Crystal, my friend's work at a care facility and this is one of there patients his name is John he insisted on going with them, it made the whole event that much more special being with such a wonderful mix of people, young and old, disabled and able, i had so much fun i danced around as people through glitter over a bridge onto me and my friends below, i waved my pride flag proudly, i snapped away 100's of photos, happily said happy pride.... it was just such a happy day, and i need a day like that again.... Still unsure if all my friends are going but atleast some of them are so i will have a ride, and it will be great!

It's also a great way of celebrating who you are and the way of proudly shouting to the entire universe that you're proud to be you.

It's wonderful that you got to go. You shouldn't let anxiety keep you from living your life.

Well, even though I have friends who are Gay, etc and would never trash them for their beliefs and choices, I could never see myself attending one. But I can see how something like this is considered important to help people get a chance and time to spend around others like them.

The picture looks like everyone is enjoying themselves, and it sounds as though you had a lot of support. It pulls at my heart strings to read that you feel that it is only a yearly feeling, a lot of people are in acceptance of gay rights, and have the live and let live adage. It isn't all negative.

People are more open minded today. The LGBT's have long been accepted by Philippine society. Which is surprising when you consider our country is predominantly Catholic and the views on homosexuality by the Vatican have not change
