Rockin' 70s Songs: "Hot Blooded" Foreigner (1978)

Foreigner is another big name band snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band was not influential or innovative being a hit machine but still solid enough rockers more deserving than the inducted likes of “rock icon” Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five whose reputation is one song. Perhaps Foreigner was too commercial but that did not stop Journey’s induction. Foreigner was huge in the 70s and 80s cranking out hits like “Urgent,” “Cold as Ice” and “Feels Like the First Time.” The lineup was Lou Gramm (vocals), Mick Jones (guitar), Ian McDonald (guitar), Ed Gagliardi (bass), Al Greenwood (synthasizer) and Dennis Elliott (drums). “Double Vision” was a bruiser of an album certified 7xPlatinum. At Billboard #3, “Hot Blooded” is terrific catchy classic 70s rock.

My Foreigner story: Foreigner was the co-headliner for Summer Jam II, with Steve Miller. Mercifully, Steve Miller went first, meaning Foreigner was the last act to perform. After Miller played, I left. I have never cared for Foreigner in the least. And yes, they should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

@JohnRoberts -- see, things balance out perfectly! But I'm sure you'd agree that his popularity merits induction into the Hall of Fame....just like Foreigner's fame (because it is a hall of fame and not a hall of quality....).

@FourWalls I agree Miller belongs. There are many groups whom I don't care for who are deserving and favorites who are not. My basic HOF issue is the inclusion of a folkie like Joan Baez and the Moodys aren't. I do believe it is the Rock and Roll HOF not rap, folk. hip hop, pop.

I really cannot understand how they are not in, especially with some of these other so called "artists" are.

I love Foreigner and i bought all of their albums (remember Columbia House and BMG music?) Pick 12 records and tapes for a penny plus shipping. Then you had to agree to buy so many, i think 6? at regular price in the year. I used to order the records through both and get them in the mail.

I think Grandmaster Flash got in for the influence factor. The HOF seems to do that.

I think they reunited recently and did some touring? Not positive, but thought I remembered hearing that from some DJ while I was listening to the radio.

Foreigner SHOULD be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Although they weren't my favorite band, they ranked in my top 20 list! I was in high school in the 80's and now when I hear "Urgent" or "Double Vision" (yes the radio stations still play them, which is another sign they should be inducted) it reminds me of the lame dances everyone went to and stood around not dancing. We listened to the music though! C'mon RRHF...what's your beef with Foreigner?
