Memorable Christmas present even though we were poor

When I was younger my dad just got home from World War 2 and didn't have much money. That did not stop him from making the best Christmas present I have never forgotten. He was a handy man and took little pieces of things he could find and made me the greatest and biggest doll house any little girl could ever want. Besides building the doll house from scraps of materials that he found or people gave him, he also had little pieces of material and made curtains and carpets throughout the house. I was very young and when I stood up next to my wonderful Christmas present it was 1/2 the size of me. I never forgot that Christmas and to this day I can close my eyes and still see that wonderful day and the greatest gift I ever received, plus my Daddy made it.

I had that doll house for years and it was built much better than any that can be bought in a store.

The handmade gifts are the special ones. I have several handmade dolls that my Grandmothers made for me. I can still knit today and know it was because of the time my family spent teaching me.

I can knit to but haven't in years. My dad was so talented and he use to crochet and I have two big table clothes he made for my mom and now I have them. Can't get things like this in the stores.

Is your dad still around? What a precious gift he gave you! Gifts like that are the best, something from the heart. He probably could have given you a rock and you'd say the same thing because he loved you so much. You were really blessed to have such a dad!
