A parent is hardly ever ready to let go. When a child grows up you can not just switch off the care and worry that went on continuously for many years. But in a way you are compelled to. So starting with the cons, from my point of view... the first unpleasant feeling for a parent is the feeling of not being needed which is close to not being loved. The second the sudden realization of the time and aging. The third - no idea what to do with yourself next, what other great cause to dedicate yourself to.
But if you can talk over and get over the first issue, all other seams small.
The advantages of having a grown up kid are many. I will say what first comes to my mind. The parent can be proud of his creation and the fruitful long term endeavor invested in bringing up the child. The results are here. Rejoice! Now you don`t take responsibility for your kids mischiefs. Now you have more time for your self, your social life, hobbies, travels, anything you think you`ve been sacrificing before. The kid might become financially independent too, so that`s another relief for you too. Thus stressed out you can become friends with your child now etc.
Have you thought of how you will handle your child`s independence?

Don`t be so hard on yourself. Selfish is not how I imagine you. :)

@Alternative4 Thank you, let's say that we did not want to have kids and then give them to our parents because we had to travel for work.

@LadyDuck That is yet more responsible than having them but not spending time with them.
