When I was a kid my mom used to adore musicals. She never went to see any on stage, but she liked to watch the movie versions over and over and over, and she'd sing song from them all the time.
We repeatedly watched My Fair Lady, Finnean's Rainbow, Fidler on the Roof.. Actually she'd often look at me and sing that one song "Where is that little girl I carried?" which I'm pretty sure is from Fiddler on the roof.. Her advice often came from songs from musicals.
I hated musicals.. they were boring! When she put one of those movies on I'd leave the room in a heartbeat and do my best not to re-enter for a few hours.. musicals are also really really long, aren't they? Like My Fair Lady.. wow!
Fast forward 30 years and a few kids later.. suddenly I'm all about musicals. My kids have a love for musicals, which has given me a love for musicals. Granted I'm now able to choose which ones I'll watch...
Tonight I'll be seeing Guys & Dolls with 2 of my boys. I signed them up for a program where they get to spend the whole day at the show. They'll have lunch with the cast, they'll learn some choreography, tour the prop and costume department, take a few lessons from some of the crew of the show, and then finally later tonight they'll go to see the show.
My 14 year old did it last year with Oklahoma.. this year my 11 year old will go as well. They're getting dressed and ready now.
Hopefully it's a fun day for them!

Children who grow up in the end are similar to their parents in many things.
I am now connected to music that my father loves. As a child, I could not hear it I hated it when my father played all the time. Today I listen to hit with pleasure
Hope you and your kids will enjoy your time at the musical show

So does my husband!! I can find something to like in just about anything in the entertainment field, but not hubby. I don't know what it is that he dislikes so much!

Probably the fact that they always randomly break out in song.. it's just weird! LOL

I grew up with musicals, and have always loved them. We had numerous music books with the piano music for a lot of them. (My mom and I both payed piano.) It's lucky I liked them, since my mom loved them so much. We used to go to the city (San Francisco) to see some good productions, also San Jose Light Opera as I recall. And we still have oodles of albums from musicals. Mostly the old records, but my mom's collected some CDs as well.
So you kind of "grew into:" musicals, it sounds like. I have known a lot of people who never do like musicals.

I don't love them all.. I'm still pretty picky. I have seen Phantom twice and still don't really like it.

I wouldn't be interested if the kids weren't, but I've really enjoyed many of them!

I don't even consider that a musical. I mean things like Les Mis and Phantom and Wicked..

I wish I had been exposed to more musicals as a kid. I didn't know about many of them until I was quite a bit older! My kids enjoy musicals for the most part . . . I like taking them to plays whenever possible - something I never really got to do. That sounds like a neat program . . . it's wonderful to learn what goes on behind the scenes - it takes a lot of work to create a successful show! Hope they enjoy it!

I think I'll love musicals though I've never been into one.
