A baby was born on an airplane in flight recently. It was on Jet Airways. This was the first baby born on that airline and they are giving the baby a lifetime of free flight. The newscasters that relayed this story had the question of wondering what they will put on the birth certificate as the place of birth. Interesting question I thought. What Do You Think?

I think they should put the airplanes name / number / identifying marker as it's place of birth. I had an ancestor born on the ocean. You know, I don't know what the birth certificate actually said..

That would be good. Or, like one new caster said, Aisle 6, seat 2.

@celticeagle haha either way! Of course that might make it difficult in the future when filling out information about where they were born. Even password reminders have "where were you born" as one of the items to choose in questions.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ......I hope they give the newborn something that doesn't cause confusion later for him.

I read the similar news before. It sounds great but it is also very risky to give birth in the airplane. This doesn't fit me. I still prefer to give birth in a good hospital

Giving free flights to children born during flight is a tradition in the airline industry. As for your question, I'm curious as well to the answer but my best guess is, the place of birth will be the country where the air plane lands (point of destination of the flight).

That's a great advantage for the little one. I don't know what the place of birth would be other than the country of residence.

It is interesting. If the parents are American, the child is American. People can fuss over the Place of Birth. But don't mess with the child's citizenship.

Citizenship and birthplace are two different things.

@celticeagle - Yes. But for some, the birthplace determines the citizenship. I can understand the dilemma on where to report the child's birthplace. I'm just saying if the baby has American parents, the baby could have been born on Mars. No worries.

They will probably put what ever state they were over at the time. Or outer space that would be cute.

I think the pilot know where the plane is "located" when the baby was born

That is one lucky baby. I would love to have a lifetime of free flight. I want to travel but flying is expensive and free flight for life would save a lot of money.
