Tourist Season in Laguna Beach California

For the next two and a half months, our sleepy little village of Laguna Beach, California is going to be transformed into an international tourist destination. The streets are crowded, minor traffic accidents are common, lines form outside the charming little ice cream parlor, and restaurant reservations become much more challenging to find. In the next two weeks, three different art festivals will open up in town, including the famous Pageant of the Masters in which volunteers don costumes and step into framed life-size sets to duplicate famous works of art. However, I can ignore nearly all of that confusion by going to the beach in the cool early morning while many of the tourists are sleeping off their hangovers! Even in the middle of tourist season, my friends and I can stroll along the edge of the ocean, surrounded only by a few other early risers and the surfers. Even in the middle of tourist season, it is peaceful and tranquil here in the early morning. Tourist season doesn't really have to be that bad, if you are an early riser!

It is tourist season also here in the south of Switzerland. Many come from Germany, Belgium, Denmark and other northern countries to visit the nice villages around the lake. Walking is not the main problem, going around with the car is a real pain.

@DeborahDiane We have not many auto accidents, but it takes forever to drive short distances.

@LadyDuck - I'm glad you don't have a lot of accidents. Here, people seem to just be looking at the ocean and they rear-end into stopped cars all the time. The other day, one car caused an eight-car wreck because they ran into the last car and it hit the next one and that caused a domino effect. It was crazy!

@LadyDuck - Yes, the same is true here. Driving anywhere can be terrible. There are more auto accidents, too.

@DeborahDiane I understand that artists at the beach or near the beach attract tourists and those who are connoisseur of arts and sea beach both, throng the place during tourist season.

@dpk262006 - It is a small town on the ocean which also has some famous artists living here. There are three art festivals going on at the same time in the summer. So, between the art and the beach, there are many things to do. It is very popular with tourists.

I like the early morning but often am mostly concerned with getting the day rolling. I'd love to be able to stroll the beach again the way I did years ago.

@sallypup - It is a hard decision. I write a free retirement blog which has been rated by Feedspot as one of the top 100 retirement blogs in the world. It is called Check it out. It might be helpful with your retirement planning.

@sallypup - I was not able to do this until I retired four years ago. Now I enjoy having the time to walk by the beach.

@Hannihar - No, I moved here about 18 years ago. Because the weather is mild, we have tourists all year long, but it gets really crowded during the summer.

@DeborahDiane Is there a certain time that tourists visit your city? It sounds like you really love it there. Were you born there?

Sounds fun, your tourist season! I often avoid the crowd (humans) in general, but every now and then, I would go watching them in those open markets, observing them just for fun...

@jstory07 - I totally understand that. There is one condo in Laguna Beach which seems to have a garage sale every weekend in the summer!

I remember this phenomenon well growing up near the beach in NC. Early mornings were the best time to get anything done during those months.

@crazyhorseladycx - Oh, yes, I'm sure there are plenty of people with hangovers in the early morning. The bars are very active late at night in the summer. I agree that it is much cooler at the beach in the morning, which is nice.

I know some of the locals in our beachside towns groan with the approach of the tourist season - but really tourists are the life-blood of the places.

@JudyEv - The same is true here. I try to avoid the crowded restaurants and busy streets. However, many businesses in our town would close down if it weren't for the tourists. And, really, we need to be patient because they only hang around for about 12 weeks from early June to early September. The rest of the year it is very tranquil around here! Keep having fun in Europe, Judy!
