Day 285
Proverbs 27:17
Proverbs 27: 17 Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
What kind of friends do you have? Do you lift each other up and strengthen each other just by being around each other?
When you sharpen iron, it works better. Soldiers in Solomon’s day needed to keep their swords sharp so they could fight better. A dull blade did not work well in battle.
A friend who tears down your confidence, who discourages you from doing what you can do, who is negative in everything they say and do, is not the kind of person who will do anything for you. That friend is a dull blade. However, a friend who encourages, stands by you, gives you pointers on how to do what needs to be done, is a sharp blade. Together you will go out and conquer the problems in your lives. You will see the possibilities, not the impossible ones. You will be able to do all things because God is your strength. No good thing will God withhold from you because you put your faith and trust in him. Together, your friend and you will conquer those mountains and they will move into the sea and you will never see them again.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in thee.
Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says.
Iron sharpens iron. Are you a sharp iron for your friend and is he a sharp iron for you?
Let’s pray: Father, help me be a friend who sharpens the countenance of those around me. Let me see the possibilities not the impossibilities. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

I have a Christian friend that tends to focus on the negative rather than the positive. I've tried to help her refocus and she will for a time, but then she reverts back to the negative. I confess. There are days when I avoid her. When I'm struggling, I don't need someone making it harder.
