I WILL BE BACK...

Canada
June 26, 2017 10:32am CST
I am up to my armpits with slate, paint and brushes. I have exactly 8 days before I hop into my car and head to upstate New York for CAMPING... (I love Camping) I will have my iPad with me but there is no wifi in the Mountains. (and no electricity to plug my iPad into.) Occasionally we will get to a town and find a way to connect with our families to let them know all is well. I will be like a ghost here on myLot, I will when its possible be checking in and returning comments and even maybe write a short HELLO. Right now I am painting. I want to have enough stock to leave the area and not worry about the store running out...and if they do run out it will be great for my bank account, but it will take a bit of time to re-stock them when I get home. I will be around for the next 8 days so when I'm tired and need a break I will stop by to work at getting caught up with you who have left comments. Summer is here, the weather is awesome, and soon I will be sleeping in a tent... Life is good. The photo are a lot of slates under construction. I have two boxes already to go to the store, so I am feeling like I've got my art covered.. Its a good feeling and camping will be even a better feeling... Looking forward to meet up with @Elusive Butterfly in Vermont after camping and before I head home. Enjoy the month of July, I will be doing that too.. What are your plans?

I hope you have a wonderful camping trip. It's great you're also going to meet up with another myLotter. My plans for the summer is getting my book, Freedom's Cry, published. It's in the works right now, and I should have cover proofs soon. I'm also working on another book that will take a lot longer to get through the many edits it's going to take to get it perfect and ready to publish.

That's a lotta slate. We're in a cool spell for a couple days so I can get a few things done but it'll be over 100 again soon and I'll be napping when it's too hot.

Its been hot and wet here in Canada all summer, I am looking forward to cooler weather. Camping in NY was hot and wet too but we always have a good time. And all that slate is sold already...Its been a great summer and I delivered more yesterday.

Wow, you're on a roll @PainsOnSlate It's been warm but humid here, I don't like humid and I'm betting at 58% that's nothing compared to what you guys get.

I envy you getting to camp in upstate NY. My wife and I camped on Lake George near Ft Ticonderoga many years ago, before children, and loved the area. We also camped quite often in VT and NH back then. Our July plans do include some camping, and a trip to VA for a 50th Anniversary celebration (her aunt and uncle).

I do sell them and the stores in tourist areas make a large amount of cash for me. I sell on consignment so there is no pressure on me or the sellers. I'm getting old and find this a great way to sell my art and not have deadlines. If they sell (and they do) I am happy and make more art and money... as needed.

@Marty1 Consignment... I sell in stores who are willing to sell for me but don't buy them. I do inventories at the end of the month, do the paperwork, send the a list Of what is gone and an invoice , which thy turn around and send me a check. I tell them what I want for the slate, they usually double the price so it's a win win for both of us.

@ElusiveButterfly we are expecting to be setting up camp in the rain today. According to the weather man we will have 4 days/nights of rain then sunshine.. we have a kitchen tent, and three more pop ups for shade and rain. Our sleeping tent is a really good one and comfortable rain or shine.

I stocked them well but I won't know until I get back to Canada if they are gone. I assume they will be gone...all of them. I brought a lot of slate with me to allow me the opportunity to paint the grafic on the top of the slate while camping and being at my sister's home. I will finish the two dozen I've done when I get home. The grafic is the time eater, the rest will take a few minutes when I get home and I will deliver before the end of the month. Thanks for asking.

@velvet53 it is making me a lot of money, of course its winter now and the stores are slow until spring but I have been impressed how many they sell even in the down time, What's stopping you from painting? I realize our life changes. I was trying to think when I started this business I have and it was when we moved from the states to Canada and I could not work so I started carving and found stores who loved them. Then did craft shows, and found a few businesses that wanted my art after I found slate. I am legal now and can sell where ever I want to and of course pay taxes too. I was in my 40's when we moved here, I'm in my 70's now and still enjoy the creativity. sorry so late with a response, just found this comment..

I figured you were very busy and I know how you guys look forward to this camping trip every year. On another note, we are going to upstate New York in late August early Sept. Maybe we can arrange to meet for lunch? How far is Niagara Falls? We are actually staying in Rochester and then near Buffalo. We will be around that area for 5 or 6 days.

Niagara Falls is very close to Buffalo, if you get the chance to visit the Falls, I can meet you there. It takes me less than 30 minutes to get to the falls. Would love to visit with you again. I will send my phone number and email on a PM. You need a passport to cross the border so if you don't have one I can meet you on the US side.

I know you camping folks love the outdoor and being w/o wifi - LOL! Me, no way - I won't even take a rental cottage w/o it! I will be in the pool as often as I can - was in today for an hour and it's not such a nice day!

You are a very busy bee getting all your slates done before you head off to some wonderful days of camping. How great that you'll be meeting up with @ElusiveButterfly. So far not much planned here for July just the traditional bbq on the 4th and fireworks and then some family birthday parties later in the month.

@Hannihar I camp every summer with my sister. We started the tradition when our children were tiny, now they are grown and still camp with us when they can. The grand kids are joining us now. We camp in the mountains of New York and enjoy the mountain river going through the camp.

That sounds like fun too, I lived on the shore of Lake Ontario for a few years and it was never boring.
