Do you ever think it may be acceptable to lie?

I know that it is best to tell the truth. I consider myself to be a good person. But I have lied and I hate to admit that. I have taught my son to tell the truth and that is what I was taught. But my son has lied too and I think we all do it sometimes. We always have a reason whether it be fear, protection, or some other reason. I would never want to be a pathological liar. I know lies can lead to trouble but could they ever be acceptable in complex situations?

Not only acceptable but often necessary to safeguard life. I think most men will agree with me on this one. When my wife asks if her butt looks big in the dress she is trying on, I can hardly say "Yes it does, due to all the chocolate and cream cakes you eat" or call her a 'lardy butt' which would be the truth. So, I say "no dear, but I do prefer the light blue gown to those horizontal stripes". And look…I am still alive after all these years!

I'm agree with you,. Sometimes it is better not to tell the truth to your wife in order to maintain a long and proper marriage (Especially about how she looks)

@melindataylor22 Thanks. Sometimes humour helps us see things from a different perspective. Complusive lying is often a because of a lack of self confidence, People are too scared or to shy to say or do, or tell, what they have done/ are are doing. So they make up stories to try and distract from whatever they are not confident about. I'm a writer and did not always have the confidence about my work. If someone wanted to see it, or read it, I used to say it was just notes, scribblings of no account and would not let them see. If I had carried on that way I would never have published. Hope that helps a bit?

Well it happens that I have told some small lies too. But as far as big things are concerned we must never. We may get caught one day

I took an ethics course, and learned that it is ok to tell a white lie, small one, so as not to hurt someone's feelings.
