Grandparents who allow grandchildren to take over.....

Granted, not all grandparents are like this, but it is getting worse. These grandparents say their grandchildren are their lives. It shows, too. They don't go to church because they babysit. They watch them on weekends so their children can get a break. They take them to school. They stay overnight. They take over their home with their toys. They get a frozen treat, and they don't like the flavor--in the trash it goes. They go to McDonald's each day on their way to school. They take a bite of it and throw the rest away. They scream and yell until they get what they want. I could go on, but you get the point. Is this what a real grandparent is? It is such a hassle to be around the people when they have their grandchildren with them -- at least this kind of grandparent.

Its not a hassle. Its how grandparents should be. And how most have been for many years. Ill be that way myself. Because my grandchildren will be my world. Just like my children will be.

@Courtlynn I have nothing against being fun. I am talking about spoiling them to the extent that they become people nobody wants to be around.

Spoiling the child you love is not right. I am a grandparent, but I am pretty strict with my grandkids although I love them dearly @MsBooklover

@MsBooklover So true! One has to discipline children as early as possible and not allow them to take their wrong doings as a norm.

@Gabugs I also don't think people realize what a nuisance those children can be to others. As they get older, they either bully and or become very unpopular which causes them problems.

Spoiling them actually makes them think everything will go there way. When they get older, and they don't get their way, it is very difficult for them.

I have 3 grandchildren living with us since their parents are working abroad as OFW (oversea Filipino workers) I often say I spoil them rotten yet I have manage to instill in all of them a sense of responsibility. I discourage junk food and we hardly patronize fast food. During their primary school days they were all members of their school's drum and lyre band. They bring home their school mates so we have the opportunity to meet them. They're now in high school and doing well in their studies. Just normal teenagers. I have 10 grandchildren and all had at one time been taken care of by myself and my husband.
