Jail Time Sentences

I was listening to a radio talk show the other day and the topic was jail time for a minor offense. So, my question is, do you know anyone who was put in jail for a minor offense? How long was that person jailed? I personally do not know anyone who was unfairly jailed, but I am sure there are instances where this happens. I thought there might be some interesting stories out there we My Lotters could share?

I know several who spend time in the National penitentiary but can't recall any that got jailed for minor offenses. Cases like these are usually settled out of court amicably with the victim. Or in cases of public offenses, bribery is more convenient both for the offender and law officials.

@dgobucks226 _Bribery is an effective means to reduce the backlog of court cases and overcrowding of detention centers.

Not anything odd that comes to mind at the moment @dgobucks226 other than people being arrested on vagrancy charges just a few minutes after they were let out of jail while trying to get to a safe place. Yes, it happens.

Yes my niece was jailed for acting out on her mother..my niece has a severe mental handicap and should not have been in jail, but there are no mental health facilities where they live so jail it was.

@dgobucks226 I do know someone who was unfairly jailed but I'm afraid I can't talk about it. Nothing against you or anyone here! But I prefer to keep it to myself as it's not my story to tell but yes I do know someone who went through this and it makes me sad when I think about it. And saddens me that this sort of thing happens.

I understand. Circumstances can be unfair sometimes.

Depends on the minor offense. My mom was put in jail for overnight and then had to go to anger management classes. Some have to stay a few days depending on the crime they did, some get to bail out, others go to rehab. It just depends on what the justice system decides with the offense.

Yes, it seems there are no uniform systems and laws differ from state to state. Thanks for your perspective, much appreciated!

Yeah it may depends on crime or sometimes people jailed to manage the current situation only and then they will get bail..

A friend of mine accidentally scratched the bumper of an empty school bus. 90 days for careless driving, with work release. Out in 30 for good behavior.

I know a woman who seriously accidentally walked out of a shop without paying for an item. She really wasn't thinking that time. She was jailed for 1 night in an extremely dirty jail. I felt so sorry for her :(

Yes, that seems pretty harsh for an inadvertent mistake.
